Michael Jones (born July 24, 1984) is an American basketball player who played for the University of Maryland, College Park. He went to high school at Thayer Academy in Braintree, Massachusetts. [1] Due to his success there, he was invited to the McDonald's All-American Game. According to Joe Benson's recruiting website Scout.com, he was the second best shooting guard in the country coming out of high school, behind LeBron James.[1]

Jones is known for his 3 point shooting ability. Due to his shared name with rapper Mike Jones, the Maryland student section was known to chant 'Who?' after every basket Jones made.

Oddly enough, this trend originated at a road game, at Temple's Liacouras Center, on January 28, 2006. In front of a surprisingly strong contingent of Maryland alumni, and his own family, Jones tied Walt Williams's school record with seven three-pointers. Jones's electrifying performance ignited the season-high crowd into a frenzy of chants and profanity-laced exhortations. [2] Despite Jones's heroics, the Terps were ultimately defeated by a talented Temple team led by Mardy Collins.

On December 13, 2006, Jones earned sole possession of the all-time University of Maryland record by making nine 3-pointers in a game.[3]

He was originally projected to be a late 2nd round pick in the NBA Draft. After going undrafted in 2007, Jones made the decision to play abroad, signing with Turkish professional team Mersin Buyuksehir Belediyesi.[4] [5] He also played for Fenerbahçe Istanbul in 2003-04 season.[2]

Jones was signed to the Cyprus-based APOEL team in January 2008, where he played along with former University of Rhode Island guard Tyson Wheeler. [1] He is currently with the CSU Asesoft team in Romania, where he is expected to play for the 2008-09 basketball season. [1]

In November 2005, he had a daughter with Morgan Howard. His daughter's name is Camryn Howard-Jones.
