Mozilla Sunbird is the standalone version of what used to be known as Mozilla Calendar. It was announced in July 2003.[1] The latest version is 0.3 alpha2, and a final release to 0.3 is in the works to be released at the end of August 2006, simultaneous to its counterpart project, The Lightning Project.[2] The Sunbird Project is described as "...a cross platform standalone calendar application based on Mozilla's XUL user interface language."[3]

On June 15, 2004, the Sunbird developers asked the Mozilla community to submit possible new default themes and logos for Sunbird. The resulting theme was developed by Mark Carson and Chris Cook, based on Firefox's default theme. Three proposed Sunbird logos were submitted to a community vote; Mark Carson's entry was declared the winner on August 12, 2004.[4]
