State Route 118, a state highway in Alabama, is a 64-mile (103 km) long route in the northwestern part of the state. Prior to the completion of sections of Corridor X/Future Interstate 22, SR-118 served only as the unsigned partner route of U.S. Highway 278 between the Mississippi state line near Sulligent and Guin. As new sections of Corridor X have opened, U.S. Highway 78 has been rerouted onto the new limited access highway, and the old sections of US-78 have been designated as SR-118, thus extending the route eastward by nearly 40 miles (64 km). The current eastern terminus of the route is west of Jasper at the junction with State Route 69.
Route description
Much of State Route 118 is aligned along narrow two-lane road. At Carbon Hill, the route briefly expands to four lanes, only to revert to a two-lane road as it heads southeasterly towards Jasper.
Major intersections
- U.S. Highway 43 and unsigned State Route 171 at Guin. Routes 43, 118 and 171 overlap until they split at Winfield.
- State Route 44 at Guin
- State Route 253 at Winfield
- State Route 129 east of Winfield. The two routes are briefly co-routed as they lead eastward towards Glen Allen
- State Route 13 near Texas
- State Route 124 east of Carbon Hill
- Future Interstate 22/Corridor X/U.S. Highway 78 east of Carbon Hill, and again west of Jasper
