Anuv Jain is an Indian singer songwriter and composer.[1][2] He is known for his baritone voice and simple chorded songs with lyrics that deal with love and heartbreak.[3] His music primarily contains an acoustic guitar or ukulele, unaccompanied by percussion or other instruments.[1][4][5][6]

One of the most popular Indian indie artists,[7][8][9] "Baarishein" (2018), "Alag Aasmaan" (2020), "Gul" (2021) and "Husn" (2023) are some of his best known works.[10][11][12][13] Husn charted at No.1 on Apple Music India charts for all genres.[14][15] He was featured in the Forbes India 30 Under 30 List of 2023.[16]

Early life and career

Jain was born in Ludhiana, India. In the 10th grade, he started to make songs in English. But on the recommendation of his guitar instructor, he started experimenting with Hindi lyrics and found a natural attraction for it.[17] When he was 19 years old, his father died after having been in a coma for two years, and Jain began to write songs as a way to express his emotions".[18][19] He began uploading original work on his YouTube channel, the first song being "Meri Baaton Mein Tu", followed by "Baarishein" which was a sleeper hit. In an interview with Rolling Stone India, he said he takes inspiration from real life events and writes songs over a period of months.[20] He cites Joji as his main musical inspiration.[21]

In 2018, he released his first single "Baarishein". During the COVID-19 pandemic, he decided to pursue music as a full-time career.[1] He has also performed live shows internationally and across the country.[22][21][23] "Baarishein" became his first song to cross 100 and 200 million streams on Spotify. In 2023 in an interview with Hindustan Times, he expressed his desire to sing for Ranbir Kapoor in his film.[24] His 2023 release "Husn" became a smash hit and garnered more than 50 million streams on Spotify within the first month of its initial release[25] and proceeded to cross 300 million streams across all platforms in 3 months becoming his biggest commercial hit.[26][27]
