It was the absence of a truly standard educational institution in the area and the demand of the inhabitants that had led to the idea of founding an institution of very high standards in the newly built town. Admission to BGAB is competitive. Applicants have to pass a written test and an oral test in order to qualify. Admission tests for One and Ninth grade are generally held in December and academic sessions begin in January. Students securing less than [[GPA]] 5 on the scale of 5 in the SSC examinations were not even eligible to apply for admission in the eleventh grade.

There are 26 clubs and societies. The program includes football, cricket, volleyball, handball and basketball. Special emphasis is given to literary and cultural activities. A yearly cultural week is observed, with Hamd, Nat, Quirat, debate, recitation, music, drama, story telling, and caricature.

Other clubs include stamp collection, drawing and painting, photography, gardening, pottery, band and junior cadet crops. A colorful wall paper reflecting the thoughts and ideas of the students is brought out each term.
