Bdood is the first and only dockless bike-sharing company in Iran. Founded in 2017, It has been widely popular and useful in the central and north-west regions of the capital city of Tehran, and plans to spread across the city in the near future.
Just like other similar dockless bike sharing companies, users can use a smartphone app to rent the bicycles at a minimum rate or 15,000IRR (about 0.10US$) per 30 minutes of usage, and can leave the bicycle wherever they desire.
In 2017, it had deployed over 5000 bikes in the central parts of Tehran, and months later it added about 700 more bikes in the north-west regions of the city. The company planned to increase the total number of bikes to 250,000, as Corporate Public Relations Manager Mohsen Arefi stated it's the maximum capacity the city can handle. [2]
Usage
To make use of the system, one must download the Bdood mobile application, register and pay a deposit of 1,590,000 IRR[3] After successful registration, customers can use the company's mobile app on their smartphones to locate nearby bicycles. Each bike is equipped with a Bluetooth and Internet connection, and has a QR code on the frame, which the customer scans to unlock the bike.
Once users finish their ride, they need to manually lock and leave the bike in any parking spot to be ready for the next user. At the time of locking the bike, the user must again ensure they have a Bluetooth and an internet connection, in order for the Bdood system to record the end of the ride and correctly calculate the hire charge. If violations are reported, a credit system penalizes the corresponding user after a certain number of times, and in extreme cases, the user could be suspended from the platform.
The application also can be used to report problems with the bike or to contact support in case of any help needed.
