Blackout is the fifth studio album by American pop singer Britney Spears. [15] [16] It is scheduled for release on November 12 2007 worldwide and November 13 2007 in the U.S.[17][18] It is her first studio album since In the Zone in November 2003.

Contributors

Sean Garrett

During December 2006, Sean Garrett spoke about the upcoming album and called it "incredible." He said the seven tracks he had produced were "exciting, aggressive, and fun." He added that her music was "definitely getting back to the basics and trying to make the world dance and sing to her beat."[8] Later on April 2007, he mentioned to People Magazine that, "Her new album is like 'Toxic' times 10. It's going to be a lot of fun and really exciting."[19] Garrett also commented on June 2007 to Billboard that the album is "uptempo, out of control...it's wowzers, produced by me and Bloodshy. I can't give the title yet, but the record is done and definitely what people want to hear from her."[20]

Bloodshy & Avant

According to Fox News the production team produced three songs for the album. "Piece of Me", which leaked in September, is meant to be a reaction to Spears's treatment by the tabloid press and the paparazzi. She sings lines about the photographers "pissing me off" and taking pictures of her derriere. [21] [22]

Nate "Danja" Hills

In an interview on the May/June 2007 issue of Scratch, Nate "Danja" Hills announced he produced a track for Spears that sounds like music from a video game.[4]. He produced the first single "Gimme More".

Keri Hilson

OK! Magazine revealed Keri Hilson wrote four tracks for Britney including "Gimme More", "Break The Ice", "The Perfect Lover" and "Out Of This World"[23]

Ne-Yo

Producer Ne-Yo said that Jive Records wished to avoid the topic of Spears's ex-husband, as "we don't need no songs about Kevin." He stated the songs he is writing will be "songs about all the controversy, then, you know, aside from all that, they'll be just regular quality songs. Songs about love, songs about hate, songs about whatever."[24] He also wrote many potential tracks for Spears and told Ryan Seacrest on August 29, 2007 that "[Britney has] gotta remind people why they love her in the first place. She's gotta get their minds off her personal life and back on music."[3]On September 18, 2007, Ne-Yo confirmed on MTV.com that he still has two songs ready for Spears, when she is ready to get them.[25][26]

J.R. Rotem

Rotem and Spears worked on "a bunch of stuff," some of which she wrote and brought in and some he wrote for her. According to him, the album is "about feeling good, celebrating womanhood" and not about the recent problems in her personal life. Rotem also states her new music is "the next level" in pop music.[5]

T-Pain

On August 30, the singer and producer T-Pain confirmed on MTV.com that he produced three songs for Spears's new album, titled "Boyfriend," "Cold as Fire" and "One of a Kind."[27]

Kara Dioguardi

Kara Dioguardi confirmed one track written and co-produced by her: "Ooh Baby" with Fredwreck and one track co-produced by her and written by Nicole Morier and Freescha titled "Heaven on Earth" .[14]

Freescha

Freescha is the San Fernando Valley, California duo of Nick Huntington and Mike McGroarty. "Heaven on Earth" is the song they wrote with Nicole Morier of Electrocute and produced alongside Kara Dioguardi.

Album title debating

On June 13, 2007, Spears asked the members of her official fan club to pick the title for the album, via a poll posted on her official web site.

On September 11, 2007, B97.1 radio station claimed that "Piece of Me" could be the title of Spears's forthcoming album, as well as the title of the second single. The same day, People magazine identified it as a possible album title.[28]

The album is currently available for pre-order on various UK retail websites under the title "Pieces of Me."[29][30]

On October 5, 2007, a message was posted on Spears's official website confirming that the title of the album is "Blackout".
