In 2000, two Christian parties (GPV and RPF) were unified to form the ChristianUnion. Presently, we occupy 4 seats in Parliament, and with a membership exceeding the number of 27,000 (!), our party ranks in the top four of political parties in the Netherlands. Backed by the rich political traditions of GPV and RPF, we constructively seek ways to make our Biblically inspired message heard in all political and social forums. Therefore, our representatives voice a Christian view on politics and society at all levels ranging from municipal councils to the European Parliament.

The ChristianUnion is a new, active and fast-growing political formation in the Netherlands, seeking cooperation with Christian political parties throughout Europe.

But what exactly do the we stand for? The ChristianUnion is a party rooted in the historic Christian faith that seeks to demonstrate the love of God through political service. The principles we want to apply in everyday politics are drawn from the Bible, as well as from Christian political insights through the centuries.

A brief summarization of our basic principles has been defined as follows: The ChristianUnion acknowledges God’s sovereignty over political affairs, that the government is given by God and called to His service and that Christians are responsible to actively participate in society. She bases her political conviction on the Bible, the inspired and authoritative Word of God, which message is expressed in the three reformed confessions and which contains wisdom also for political affairs.

It is our opinion that in today’s Europe, Christians can make a change if they join hands to give voice to their political message on the European level. If a major part of European culture and history has been influenced by Christianity, then why would this be impossible for Europe in the 21st century?

The upcoming elections to the European Parliament in 2004 will provide Christian politicians with new opportunities to cooperate within an enlarged European Union. Therefore, the ChristianUnion seeks to build a network of Christian political parties and movements, in order to combine forces on the European level.

In the perspective of the ongoing European integration, the ChristianUnion is convinced that closer relations with other Christian political parties are both desirable and useful. The exchange of information and ideas between Christian movements throughout Europe, regardless their denomination, will have a positive impact on Christian political cooperation in general.

Do you share our desire for better cooperation between politically engaged Christians? You are most welcome to join the platform for Christian politics in Europe!
