Dolibarr ERP/CRM is an open source/free software package for small and medium companies, foundations or freelancers. It includes different features for Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP) and Customer Relationship Management (CRM) but also other features for different activities.

Features

There are several feature modules that can be enabled or disabled, as needed. This software is free under GNU General Public License 2.0. It is a web-based application, and can therefore be used wherever internet service is available. Dolibarr aims to offer free Opensource ERP and CRM features for people with no technical knowledge, by providing a simple solution[1].

Dolibarr includes all the important features of an ERP/CRM suite, excluding accountability. It is modular and is thus characterized by its ease of installation and use, despite the large number of modularized features [2][3]

Main Dolibarr features include:

Main modules

Miscellaneous

  • Multi-user, with several permissions levels for each feature.
  • Several menu managers (i.e., a back-office menu for internal users, a front-office menu for external users…).
  • Very user-friendly.
  • Assorted skins.
  • Code is highly customizable (very modular).
  • Works with Mysql 4.1 or higher, experimental support for PostgreSql [4].
  • Works with PHP 5.0 or higher [4].

Missing features

These features are not available in the most recent version of Dolibarr [5]:

  • No accountancy (banking management only - full accountancy support in development).
  • Manages only one currency at a time (mono-currency - can be expanded via a module).
  • Manages only one company/foundation (mono-company). This means you need to install software twice (on same server or not) if you want to manage two different companies (note that you can find some external addons that enhance the software to provide a way to removed this limit[6]).
  • Does not support the double VAT (both federal and provincial) for Canada.
  • No human resource management.
  • No Webmail (not to be confused with a mailing-list).

Architecture

Dolibarr is written in PHP. It uses MySQL databases. It works with a wide choice of hosting services or servers. Dolibarr works with all PHP configurations (as described above) and does not require any additional PHP module.

Dolibarr is also available with an auto-installer for all Operating Systems users (Windows, Mac, Linux) with no technical knowledge, to install Dolibarr and all its prerequisites (Apache, MySQL, PHP) with just one auto-install file. This version is called DoliWamp for Windows users, DoliDeb for Debian or Ubuntu users, DoliRpm for Fedora, Redhat, Mandriva or OpenSuse users, and DoliMamp for Mac users.

History

Dolibarr was started by Rodolphe Quiedeville, from scratch, and saved under CVS, hosted by Savannah, in April 2002. Jean-Louis Bergamo, started at the same time the foundation management module.

Version 1.0 was released in September 2003.

In July 2008, Rodolphe let the main contributor Laurent Destailleur (also author of the other popular OpenSource project AWStats) to lead the project [7]

A foundation and several user groups was also created in France (country where Dolibarr is the most famous)[8].

Dolibarr is above all known in France to be a software package selected by new businesses [9] but the software is also available in more than 12 languages.
