Ballade Cuntre Lo Anemi Francor is the third studio album by French black metal band Peste Noire, released on 27 March 2009 by La Mesnie Herlequin.[1][2]
Background
Ballade Cuntre Lo Anemi Francor was released in 2009 as a follow-up to the band's 2007 album Folkfuck Folie.[3]
Although fundamentally a black metal record, Ballade cuntre lo Anemi franco prominently mixes in elements of experimental metal, prog metal and traditional folk music to varying degrees.[4][5][6] It ______ and incorporates audio samples while maintaining the signature raw lo-fi recording quality of black metal music.[7]
From a lyrical standpoint, Ballade cuntre lo Anemi franco draws on themes concerning French nationalism, patriotism, traditionalist conservatism, right-wing populism, Germanophilia and militarism/paramilitarism.[8][9]
The cover artwork is speculated to be either a French or English illuminated manuscript from the 14th century.[10] In regards to the thematic band lore of Peste Noire as a whole, it is significant to note that that 14th century marked the Europe-wide Great Famine of 1315–1317 which was soon followed by arrival of the Black Plague in France before quickly spreading to England the subsequent year after. The band's name, "Peste Noire", is French for "Black Plague" and their frontman, Ludovic Faure, performs under the stage name "Famine" - possibly a reference to the Great Famine of the 14th century.[11]
