The European Left Alliance for the People and the Planet (ELA) is a European political party in the process of being founded[1] by feminist, green-leaning parties splitting away from the European Left party (EL).[2] It consists of seven parties around the movement Now the People (NTP) formed prior to the 2024 European elections. Their members tend to be newer, green-left leaning parties, and lament the dominance of traditional communist parties after the election outcome and the exit of two parties from the EL (Bloco de Esquerda from Portugal and Vasemmistoliitto from Finland).[3][4]

The first officially confirmed member of the ELA was the Danish Red-Green Alliance, Enhedslisten.[3] European parties like ELA and EL are separate from the group in the European Parliament (The Left in the European Parliament – GUE/NGL). The parliamentary group will remain in place as a pluralist space with both EL and ELA parties in it.[5]

Members

ELA has 18 of 46 MEPs who compose the Left group in the European Parliament.[6]
