Enercoop is a French electricity supplier, which only uses renewable energy. It is the only one in France in the form of a cooperative. Its founding members include Greenpeace and other leading actors of environmental protection and the ethical economy.

History

Enercoop was created in 2005 and initially just had companies as clients. In July 2007 the French electricity market opened for individuals as well.

In September 2009, Enercoop had a total of 4,200 clients. By May 2011 they had 8,000 clients.

Enercoop's aim is to create many regional cooperatives around France where the local members can be in charge of all parts of the energy process from production to consumption. In this way Enercoop hopes to make citizens responsible for the energy they consume.
