Kanojo ga Flag o Oraretara (彼女がフラグをおられたら), also known as Gaworare (がをられ), is a Japanese light novel series written by Tōka Takei, with illustrations by Cuteg. Kodansha has published seven volumes since December 2011. A manga adaptation and two spin-off series have been serialized in Kodansha's magazines. An anime adaptation produced by Hoods Entertainment will begin airing in Japan in April 2014.
Plot
Sōta Hatate, a new transfer student, has precognitive abilities that allow him to view the futures of those involved with him in the form of flags. He lives in a small dorm with many beautiful girls,[1] but when he sees a flag of death on himself; he learns that to change his fate, he has to assemble four people: a princess knight, a magician, a clergy, and a shinobi.[ch. 5]

- The thirteenth princess of Braidfield.[ch. 2] When she introduces herself to Sōta, she does not raise a flag like the other characters. She shows interest in Sōta's ability,[ch. 1] and serves as the "princess knight" in Sōta's party.[ch. 10]
- Akane Mahōgasawa (魔法ヶ沢 茜, Mahōgasawa Akane)
- Voiced by: Ai Kayano
- Akane is the granddaughter to the founder of the renowned Mahogasawa Foundation.[ch. 2] She bears a flag of friendship,[ch. 2] and becomes the "magician" in Sōta's party.[ch. 10]
- Kikuno Shōkanji (召喚寺 菊乃, Shōkanji Kikuno)
- Voiced by: Kana Asumi
- Kikuno is Sōta's childhood friend who likes to act as an older sister to him.
- Megumu Tōzokuyama (盗賊山 恵, Tōzokuyama Megumu)
- Voiced by: Kana Hanazawa
- Megumi is a schoolmate who is thought to be a girl even though he dresses as a boy. Because Sōta calls him a boy, Megumu immediately likes him, and sprouts a string of little friendship flags.[ch. 3]
- Rin Eiyūzaki (英雄崎 凜, Eiyūzaki Rin)
- Voiced by: Yōko Hikasa
- Rin is introduced as an archery girl to help Quest Dorm in the athletic festival. She is friends with Kikuno and reveals that she has a boy childhood friend named Soda whom she keeps in contact by email. However, when she discovers Sōta is that person, she retreats in embarrassment and occasionally reveals a yandere flag.[ch. 8]
- Ruri Ninjabayashi (忍者林 瑠璃, Ninjabayashi Ruri)
- Voiced by: Ayaka Suwa
- Ruri is an android created by the Mahogasawa Foundation. She serves the as the "shinobi" in Sōta's party,[ch. 10] and is introduced in the story as a secret weapon to help the Quest Dorm in the school's athletic tournament games. She frequently asks yes–no questions on operations she is about to perform, and is programmed to act like a little sister to Sōta.[ch. 7]

- Voiced by: Aoi Yūki.

- Tsumugi Ryūkishibara (龍騎士原 月麦, Ryūkishibara Tsumugi)

- Tsumugi is a schoolmate that is rumored to have been with the school before it was built that her peers call her "baba-sama" (elderly woman). She appears as a young girl with a bonnet.[ch. 3][vol. 2:profiles] She acts like a grandmother towards Sōta.[ch. 12,13]
- Mimori Seiteikōji (聖帝小路 美森, Seiteikōji Mimori)
- Voiced by: Yukari Tamura
- The student council president, and the granddaughter of the school chairman.[vol. 2:profiles] She initially places Sōta in the remote Quest Dorm but helps organize its renovation.[ch. 3] She participates in the school board meetings, and takes actions from there to the dorm.[ch. 6]
- Mei Daimyōzamurai (大名侍 鳴, Daimyōzamurai Mei)
- Voiced by: Sakura Tange
- Mei is a mysterious girl comes from an alternate world and knows about Sōta's powers and his connection to her world.[ch. 12] Her title is number 7 of the House of Shigitoku.[vol. 3:profiles]
- Kurumiko Daishikyōgawa (大司教河 くるみ子, Daishikyōgawa Kurumiko)
- Voiced by: Misaki Kuno
- Kurumi is a middle school girl who is introduced as a popsicle vendor at the beach. She feels guilty that her parents were part of the crew of the Premium Anberial.[ch. 13] When she and Sōta are trapped in a cave, Kurumiko loses hope, but Sōta saves her by inviting her to live at the dorm as his younger sister.[ch. 14] She becomes the clergy character in Sōta's party, and her flag is usually one of story advancement.[ch. 13]

- Voiced by: Rina Hidaka
- Sakura is a mysterious girl who gives Sōta his powers while aboard the Premium Anberial.[ch. 6] She later removes Mei's flag observing powers and related memories after Mei and Sōta visit the alternate world.[ch. 16]
- Miyuki MacKenzie (深雪・マッケンシー, Miyuki Makkenshī)
- Voiced by: Yuuka Nanri
- She is the homeroom teacher at Sōta's school[ch. 7] and the resident adviser at Quest Dorm.[ch. 14] Her alternate world equivalent is a descendant of Sōta who is noted as a "main character" in the quest.[ch. 16]
- Hakua Berserker Braidfield (白亜・B・ブレードフィールド, Hakua Bāsākā Burēdofīrudo)
- Voiced by: Ai Kakuma
- Hakua is Nanami's sister and another princess of Braidfield.[ch. 16:sketch in chapter]

Kanojo ga Flag o Oraretara began as a light novel series written by Tōka Takei, with illustrations by Cuteg. The first volume was published on December 2, 2011 under Kodansha's Kodansha Ranobe Bunko.[2] As of November 29, 2013[update], seven volumes have been released.[3] The eighth volume is scheduled to be released on April 2, 2014, simultaneously with a limited edition bundled with a drama CD.[4][5][needs update]

Manga
A manga adaptation illustrated by Nagian began serialization in the December 2011 issue of Kodansha's Monthly Shōnen Rival magazine, published on November 4, 2011. The first tankōbon volume was released on March 2, 2012,[11] and six volumes have been released as of November 29, 2013[update].[12] The seventh volume is scheduled to be released on April 2, 2014, simultaneously with a limited edition bundled with a drama CD.[13][14][needs update] A spin-off series also by Nagian is published in two parts: in Monthly Shōnen Rival and online on Kodansha's Magazine Lab service. The series is titled Kanojo ga Flag o Oraretara: Ō Yūsha yo, Flag o Tateteshimau to wa Nanigoto da!? (彼女がフラグをおられたら おお勇者よ、フラグを立ててしまうとは何事だ!?), or Gawoyū (がをゆう) for short, and its serialization began in Monthly Shōnen Rival's June 2013 issue sold on May 2, 2013. The series shows Sōta and the girls as characters in a fantasy role-playing game world. A second spin-off series, titled Kanojo ga Flag o Oraretara: Root Love (彼女がフラグをおられたら ~ルートラブ~), or Gaworabu (がをラブ), by Kazuki Ayasaki, is serialized in Monthly Shōnen Sirius and on Niconico's Niconico Seiga service. Its first chapter was published on July 26, 2013.[15]

Sōta reveals to her that he is able to see the fate of someone's future in the form of flags, and that he is able to "break" the flag by his actions. They discover that childhood friend Kikuno Shōkanji has a flag of love, and Akane Mahōgasawa has a flag of friendship. Sōta takes the girls to his dorm, which is in poor shape; they ask long-time student Tsumugi Ryūkishibara who gets student council president Mimori Seiteikōji to renovate the dorm, employing effeminate admiring boy Megumu Tōzokuyama, after which he and the girls move in as tenants. Upset about the establishment of the co-ed Quest Dormitory (クエスト寮, Kuesuto ryō), the school's board of directors pressure Mimori to shut them down. Mimori proposes that the residents can prove their worth by becoming the MVP of the school's week-long athletic games. After performing miserably on the first day, the team gets some help from android Ruri Ninjabayashi and archery athlete Rin Eiyūzaki. Rin trains the team for the sixth day of events. Although the team finishes second overall, the board members are impressed, and agree to retain the residence. | |||

While the council members from the other world debate Sōta's presence as a threat, Sōta goes on his promised dates with the Quest Dorm residents. He encounters Mei Daimyōzamurai who knows of his abilities. Sōta must attend both sessions of swimming and academic summer school camps, each of which has Quest Dorm residents. The swimming sessions bring traumatic memories of the shipwreck, and are compounded when he attends the academic camp and finds they are switching locales to the beach for the day. He befriends Kurumiko Daishikyōgawa, the potential "clergy" character for his party. After a crisis situation that involves the tide, he invites her to be his little sister. | |||

When they return, Sōta's death flag becomes large. After Mei tries to break it, Sakura wipes Mei of the knowledge of the flags. Anime
An anime adaptation, produced by Hoods Entertainment and directed by Ayumu Watanabe,[20] will premiere on April 6, 2014 on Tokyo MX and later on SUN, TVA, BS11 and AT-X.[21]
