Jean Erdman, Baron Dieskau or Jean-Armand Dieskau, Baron de Dieskau or Ludwig August von Dieskau (1701–1767) was a French general and commander in America for a part of the French and Indian War. On September 8, 1755, he led some 1400 French and Indian troops against William Johnson's provincial soldiers and Native American warriors. Casualties were comparable for each side, but Dieskau was wounded and captured, and his men retreated. This event became known as the Battle of Lake George. Dieskau was finally released in 1763.
