Jeff Berwick (born Jeffrey David Berwick, November 24, 1970) is a "expatriate Canadian" blogger operating the "Dollar Vigilante Website"
Berwick founded StockHouse Media Corporation in 1994 and remained CEO until 2002.
In early 2013, Berwick envisioned building a bitcoin ATM network conveniently timed to the banking crisis and instability in Cypress which he announced on CNBC. In May of 2013 Berwick released a statement that he did not close this venture with his partners.[1] The credibility of his "business plan" was questioned by Business Insider, " This Story About A Bitcoin ATM Coming To Cyprus Is Almost Certainly Nonsense."[2]
Starting in 2012, Berwick was a partner and principle of John Cobin's Galt's Gulch Chile project,[3][4] which was to be a libertarian community and Utopia in the Curacaví region of Chile consisting of 3000 households. In his own forensic chronology, Berwick claims that he was personally responsible for generating thousands of sales prospects (the majority of sales prospects). "I had already brought in thousands of leads to GGC throughout 2012 and the start of 2013"
According to Vice News, the project raised from 4.3 million dollars (to 10.55 million dollars) through sales and loans for land which did not have water rights and was not zoned properly thus making the land unusable for its intended purpose thus resulting in a business dispute to which investors have little recourse.[5][6][7] Sales corresponding to a land purchase of approximately $1.5 million dollars. Instead of supporting 3000 potential homes, the site was zoned for 12 units none of which have water rights. Per Berwick, "Very quickly after the purchase of the property I received an email from Ken that there was a lot of errors and the property not only can't be rezoned for 3,000 lots but only for 12! And, it had no water rights for much more than 12 livable units!"
Berwick deflects and/or assuages all and any responsibility for a project he describes as being ripe with mismanagement, mistakes, and potentially fraud for which he blames in the entirety his partner, Ken Johnson.. Quoted in Vice news, Berwick denies having the paperwork support documenting his involvement in the project as a principle, a position which Vice inferred as being incredible.
