Komarudin Hidayat (born in Magelang, Central Java, October 18, 1953[1]) is a Muslim academics and intellectuals from Indonesia. He is rector of Syarif Hidayatullah State Islamic University Jakarta (UIN Jakarta) for the period 2006-2010. Apart from being academic, he also was a columnist in the mass media[2]. His Intellectuality, he showed with researchers at several institutions to study and research[2].

Career

Since childhood Komar close to the Islamic world especially Islamic boarding schools (pesantren). Komar is a modern boarding school alumni in Pabelan, Magelang (1969) and the Pesantren al-Iman, Muntilan (1971)[1]. After graduating from boarding school, he continued his studies baccalaureate (BA) in Islamic Education (1977) and graduate Complete (Drs) in Islamic Education (1981) at IAIN Jakarta (the old UIN Jakarta)[1].

Komar continued doctoral studies abroad. He Received doctorate in Western Philosophy at Middle East Techical University, Ankara, Turkey (1990)[1].

On October 17, 2006, in a senate meeting chaired by Azyumardi Azra, in the main auditorium UIN Jakarta, Komar elected as rector of the university. He won the electoral votes of two other candidates namely Prof. Dr. Masykuri Abdillah and Prof. Dr. Suwito[1].

Komar is a columnist in the mass media such as Kompas and Seputar Indonesia and Republika[2]. As academics, Komar was a Professor at the Graduate Faculty of IAIN Jakarta (since 1990), lecturer at the Graduate Faculty of the University of Indonesia (since 1992), professor of School of Philosophy (STF) Driyarkara (since 1993)[2].

Aside from being a lecturer, he is also a magazine Editorial Board Ulumul Qur `an (since 1991), Editorial Board of Studia Islamika journal (since 1994), the Board of Editors in the writing Encylopedia of the Islamic World, and Director of the Centre for Contemporary Islamic Development Studies (Pusat Kajian Pengembangan Islam Kontemporer), UIN Jakarta (since 1995)[3]. Since 1990, he is one of the researchers remain Endowments Paramadina Foundation (Yayasan Wakaf Paramadina), Jakarta[3].
