The film's trailer was released on 12 August 2020 on YouTube, and within a week, it became the second most-disliked video on the Youtube and also the most-disliked teaser/trailer of any movie across any languages due to vote brigading.[6][7][8]
Sadak 2 was released on 28 August 2020 on the streaming platform Disney+ Hotstar.[1] The film received overwhelmingly negative reviews from critics, some of whom called it "terrible" and "lackluster".[9]

The principal photography began on 18 May 2019.[5] On 19 May 2019, Makarand Deshpande was confirmed to play the main antagonist in the film. Alia Bhatt joined the filming from 21 May 2019.[11] The first schedule of the film was completed in the third week of May in Mumbai. The second schedule began in Ooty in mid July 2019.[12][13]
Trailer release and reception
Sadak 2's trailer faced vote brigading owing to the nepotism debate sparked after the suicide of Indian actor Sushant Singh Rajput. Speculating that he had despaired of being shut out of the film industry due to hiring practises that favoured children of established film personalities, Rajput's fans blamed Bollywood insiders, including Sadak 2 director Mahesh Bhatt and his daughter Alia, one of its stars. Alia Bhatt had once spoken dismissively of Rajput on a chat show.[6][7][14] Within two days of its release, the trailer had received 5.3 million dislikes on YouTube and became second most disliked video within week's time.[15][16]
Release
The film was initially scheduled for release on 25 March 2020, but was pushed to 10 July 2020.[17] It was again pulled from the release schedule as the shooting was delayed because of COVID-19 pandemic lockdown in India.[18]
On 29 June 2020, the streaming service Disney+ Hotstar conducted a virtual press conference, where Alia Bhatt announced that the film was released on Disney+ Hotstar exclusively, premiered on 28 August 2020.[19][1]
Critical reception
