Samuel Vedanayagam Pillai (1826-1889), also known as Mayavaram Vedanayagam Pillai, was an Indian civil servant and Tamil poet and novelist who is remembered for the authorship of Prathapa Mudaliar Charithram, recognized as the "first modern Tamil novel".
