Elevated Acre
[edit]The Elevated Acre should have its own entry. New Yorkers? Ref in Untapped Cities: http://untappedcities.com/2013/07/01/financial-districts-secret-plaza-the-elevated-acre-at-55-water-street/ Cellmaker (talk) 07:07, 13 October 2013 (UTC):
- I agree! And the Elevated Acre has recently blown up on TikTok. I went to visit it the other day and seemed like a LOT of new casual visitors / tourists (since the building is otherwise empty due to COVID-19 work from home). I'd create the page or help but I don't have any info handy. I do have access to an Alabama Retirement System encyclopedia (owners of 55 Water) which might have relevant source info on Elevated Acre? I can get to it in a few months when I visit my parents. --Nickgray (talk) 13:06, 9 September 2020 (UTC)

Overall: AGF on the Stern et al book. I prefer ALTs 2,3, and 4 to original hook and ALTs 1 and 5, but all are OK. @Epicgenius: thanks for your work on the article. This DYK should be good to go once QPQ is completed. Regards, BennyOnTheLoose (talk) 09:29, 27 July 2022 (UTC)

Evening Epicgenius, I'll go ahead and take this one as my last review for the GAN drive. Wouldn't be the complete experience without an NYC building review! Should be done sometime tomorrow at the latest. Fritzmann (message me) 01:13, 29 August 2023 (UTC)
Prose
[edit]- Were there any other buildings on the four blocks besides the Seaman's Institute?
- I will have to look later. I know there were probably other low-rise buildings, but only the Seaman's Institute was notable. Epicgenius (talk) 14:20, 29 August 2023 (UTC)
- Link/explain mullion? I know at least I'm not familiar with the term
- "55 Water Street has remained New York City's largest office building into the 21st century" perhaps just "as of 2019" to be more specific in regards to the source? This makes it sound a little like something else surpassed it in the 21st century
- Done, but the source was from 2010, so I've done that. Epicgenius (talk) 14:20, 29 August 2023 (UTC)
- "was allowed to build an additional 485,640 sq ft (45,117 m2)" so the original plans were for a smaller building? Where was this additional footage added? Was it because of zoning laws perhaps?
- Yes, zoning regulations limited the maximum amount of space that every land lot could have. The developer received permission to build a larger structure in exchange for adding the plaza; the building's height was then increased. Epicgenius (talk) 14:20, 29 August 2023 (UTC)
- "through which tenants and guests must pass through"
- Oops, fixed. Epicgenius (talk) 14:20, 29 August 2023 (UTC)
- "lifted into the building's facade at night" why at night?
- It was when there was less traffic. I've added this. Epicgenius (talk) 14:20, 29 August 2023 (UTC)
- Should LF Rothschild be L.F. Rothschild?
- Yep, done. Epicgenius (talk) 14:20, 29 August 2023 (UTC)
- Could the mention of the short story collection be moved to the Reception section? I think that subject could be expanded somewhat if it were moved and there is any material on it
- I've moved the short story collection.
I need to look for further info on this later, though.Epicgenius (talk) 14:20, 29 August 2023 (UTC)
- I've moved the short story collection.
- "stop worrying and love the boom" is this a reference to Doctor Strangelove? Would a link be appropriate if so?
- I am not sure, actually. Epicgenius (talk) 14:20, 29 August 2023 (UTC)
- "contains a 36-story replica of 55 Water Street" how large is the replica? Maybe it's just me but I feel like it's very interesting that this was one of the buildings chosen; a few sentences on the replica may be welcome, perhaps that could be a brief second paragraph of the reception section
- I've added a little more detail about this. However, there isn't much commentary about that building to begin with. Epicgenius (talk) 15:41, 31 August 2023 (UTC)
- The only other general note that I had was perhaps some more of the mechanical features details could be relegated to notes. I feel that is done well with the existing notes and could maybe make that section a little easier to read without sacrificing any content
- I have moved some more details into the footnotes. Epicgenius (talk) 15:41, 31 August 2023 (UTC)
References
[edit]- Earwig gives max similarity of 13% which is all from properly attributed quotes
- Will perform 10 reference spotchecks, will do more if there are any issues
- 2b: very cool zoning map. Spent way longer looking at it than I planned. All good here.
- 7a: discusses the process of land reclamation
- 8: mentions five other buildings Emory Roth built
- 33a: states they were responsible for park maintenance
- 41: all about 2005 reopening
- 43: mentions Sky 55
- 64: all about asset sale
- 71b, 76: maybe I'm having an absolute brainfart, but I can only find that they were "one of" the largest in NYC, not "the largest"
- Oops. I have fixed that. Epicgenius (talk) 23:46, 29 August 2023 (UTC)
- 86: Harbor Club is, in fact, a thing
Summary
[edit]Very few content notes, I'll get started on the references checks later today; that will probably take me a little longer but I don't foresee any major issues. Fritzmann (message me) 13:40, 29 August 2023 (UTC)
- Should be wrapped up with the review, once the last few points are addressed it should be all good. Fritzmann (message me) 15:46, 29 August 2023 (UTC)
