Central peak formation mechanism?

Could someone with a good understanding of the process attempt a explanation of it? The note that it is not due to elasticity is a good start, but the negative information doesn't really paint a full picture of what is happening. Alas, I don't think I'm up to writing it myself. I checked the reference and there is no page 120 o_O .froth. (talk) 21:37, 14 January 2011 (UTC)[reply]

The central peak rises due to gravity. The gravitational imbalance by a hole put into a planet is generated by making the globe less spherical. The central peak is a response from gravity to reform the globe into a more spherical shape.
