The contents of the Wall Street Journal are just claims which have not been established. It is not clear who is this people familiar with the matter? In the other hand, The claim used in the lead is based on the confession of an Iranian farmer named Mansour Rasouli, who denied any involvement in the operation. This matter is stated in a part of the article, it is OPV to bring it in the lead.
