Birth name not "Michael King Jr." but only "Michael King."

Per Jonathan Eig's 2023 book "King: a life" (ISBN 9780374279295) Martin Luther King Jr. was not born "Michael King Jr." On page 23, paragraph 5, Eig writes, "They named him Michael King, no middle name, no initial, no "Junior." They called him Little Mike."

Please consider updating all references of birth name "Michael King Jr." to simply "Michael King." Stephenwmjones (talk) 16:25, 20 March 2024 (UTC)

I agree, that is likely what you will be called and referred to as, but as a simple matter of fact, Michael King Jr. was not his birth name. His birth name was Michael King. Good question. A scan of his Georgia Dept of Public Health birth certificate can be found here. The "Full Name of Child" is listed as "Michael King." In July '57, "Michael" was crossed out in favor of "Martin Luther, Jr.". Phrasing

"In 1964, the FBI mailed King a threatening anonymous letter, which he interpreted as an attempt to make him commit suicide." I would suggest changing this sentence to something along the lines of "In 1964, the FBI mailed King a threatening anonymous letter, which he interpreted as an attempt to make him take his own life", as "commit suicide" has increasingly been seen as an outdated way of phrasing it, as noted by several reputable organizations, such as the American Psychological Association (https://www.apa.org/topics/suicide/coping-after) and the American Psychiatric Association (https://www.psychiatry.org/news-room/apa-blogs/how-to-talk-about-suicide-on-social-media).
