in the 1960s, African Americans wouldn't be aloud to dream. They would more be beaten for wasting time of others, if they tried to discuss their dreams. Therefore he was white. [[User:Cadesmith223|Cadesmith223]] ([[User talk:Cadesmith223|talk]]) 13:02, 11 April 2024 (UTC) |

the word NOT is missing
in the section early childhood it says: King's father responded sharply that King Jr. was a boy but he was a man
the word NOT is missing. 45.173.210.101 (talk) 02:49, 16 March 2024 (UTC)
Birth name not "Michael King Jr." but only "Michael King."
Per Jonathan Eig's 2023 book "King: a life" (ISBN 9780374279295) Martin Luther King Jr. was not born "Michael King Jr." On page 23, paragraph 5, Eig writes, "They named him Michael King, no middle name, no initial, no "Junior." They called him Little Mike."
Please consider updating all references of birth name "Michael King Jr." to simply "Michael King." Stephenwmjones (talk) 16:25, 20 March 2024 (UTC)
- If you are given the same name as your father, you are Jr whether anyone says it or not. Alanscottwalker (talk) 18:05, 20 March 2024 (UTC)
- I agree, that is likely what you will be called and referred to as, but as a simple matter of fact, Michael King Jr. was not his birth name. His birth name was Michael King. And as a web source interested primarily in facts, I believe it best to go with the factual record. Stephenwmjones (talk) 09:46, 21 March 2024 (UTC)
- I agree with this. The "Michael King" thing is sketchy enough -- his father said it was a mistake by the doctor. Do we have other support for Eig's name information? --jpgordon𝄢𝄆𝄐𝄇 01:51, 22 March 2024 (UTC)
- Good question. A scan of his Georgia Dept of Public Health birth certificate can be found here. The "Full Name of Child" is listed as "Michael King." In July '57, "Michael" was crossed out in favor of "Martin Luther, Jr.".
