The Leopard is the student newspaper of Goldsmiths, University of London. It is a monthly paper covering news, comment, sports, society information and student listings. The Leopard aims to be the missing link in information to the student body[1]. It was founded in 2010 by Hannah Wright and Johnny Blonde aided by the Students' Union president, James Haywood.

It is the first newspaper successfully established by Goldsmiths College. The paper is run by students independently of the Students' Union alongside the other media outlets, Wired Radio and SMITHS magazine[2].

Through the Student Journalism Network (formerly LSJSN)[3], the paper has ties to London Student and has participated in liveblogs with other University of London papers covering events like the November 10, 2010 anti-cuts protests[4].

Content

When the paper launched in 2010, it consisted of 12 pages and was soon increased to 16 pages due to increased article submissions and reader interest. The paper is full colour throughout, with individual sections covering a wide range of subjects relevant to the university and student life. Beneath the Editors-in-Chief are a deputy editor and several section editors.

The newspaper contains the sections:

  • News
  • Features
  • Comment
  • Lifestyle & Culture
  • Music
  • Sport

And regular columns:

  • Devil's Advocate - Comment dedicated to taking the other viewpoint of current issues and events
  • Fresher's Diary - Reports from a first year student, chosen at the start of every year
  • The Final Whistle - Sport opinion focusing on developments of the [2012_Summer_Olympics|London 2012 Olympic Games]
  • Flexible Heads - A comic strip by artist Simon Betts[5]
