Kim Abeles spent her childhood in Pittsburgh then moved to Los Angeles in 1978. In 1969, she was an American Field Service student to Utsunomiya, Japan. During her time there she met Kodak Kobari, a Buddhist Priest, who introduced her to Japanese arts. She received her MFA in Studio Art from the University of California, Irvine. |

In the mid-70s she lived in southeastern Ohio. This is where she wrote and illustrated the book ''Crafts, Cookery and Country Living.'' In 1980, her life in Los Angeles inspired her to create artwork about “real” life instead of ethereal themes. Since 1985, she had produced artwork about the environment with an emphasis on air pollution. She was able to capture both national and international attention through her '''The Smog Collector''' series. |
