Welcome

Welcome!

Hello, N419BH, and welcome to Wikipedia! Thank you for your contributions. I hope you like Wikipedia and decide to stay. Here are some pages that you might find helpful:

I hope you enjoy editing here and being a Wikipedian! Please sign your name on talk pages using four tildes (~~~~); this will automatically produce your name and the date. April 2010

Hello. When you patrol new pages, all articles that you have looked at should be marked patrolled, whether you marked them for deletion or deemed them acceptable, unless you are not sure. This saves time and work by informing fellow patrollers of your review of the page so that they do not duplicate efforts. Thank you. Cptmurdok (talk) 21:54, 14 April 2010 (UTC)[reply]

When you patrol pages from Special:NewPages you should see a [Mark this page as patrolled] link at the bottom right corner. I had just noticed that you marked a new page with a CSD tag but hadn't marked it as patrolled. If you use Twinkle, it should do this automatically. If you did mark it and I just saw it as unpatrolled due to server latency or something, then please accept my apologies. Thanks! Cptmurdok (talk) 22:38, 14 April 2010 (UTC)[reply]
Glad I was able to be of some help. I'm new to editing myself, so sharing of tips is always welcome. Thanks! Cptmurdok (talk) 17:16, 15 April 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Foreign-language contributions

Hi. {{db-foreign}} is only used in the situation (not common in my experience) where an article from a foreign WP has been cut-and-pasted here (the point being that to do that loses the contribution record - there is a procedure at WP:TRANSLATE for doing it properly). The foreign WP reference should be included in the tag, e.g. {{db-foreign|source=es:Warekena}}.

Much more usually, what we get is a foreign text input by somebody who probably doesn't know any other WP exists. The right tag then is {{notenglish}}, which is not a speedy request - because sometimes these articles are worth translating. When that expands on the article page, it gives you a message and a link to the place to paste it on WP:PNT, where someone who knows the language may pick it up and translate or PROD or whatever is appropriate.

If you know or can guess the language, then put, e.g., {{notenglish|Spanish}}. That gives a more useful template, including a link to the relevant foreign Wikipedia, and also a link to Google Translate, which will show you a machine translation - rough and ready, but often good enough to tell you that the article is about a NN band or person and can be speedy tagged without bothering to list it at PNT.

The Google Translate facility can be used to help guess the language - e.g. if it looks like Arabic but the translation makes no sense, try Farsi.

There is a useful set of message templates such as {{contrib-ru1}} to give the author a bilingual message saying we require English and pointing him to the foreign WP. List of them at WP:PNT/T. The most exotic one I have yet used for real is {{contrib-sq1}}.

In fact "Gervasio maria" just now, when I added {{notenglish|Portuguese}} and looked at the translation, was a nasty personal attack, so I didn't bother pointing the author to Portuguese WP - his contribution would not have been welcome there, either.

Regards, JohnCD (talk) 17:01, 15 April 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Thank you for your advice; I will be sure to apply those tags in the future and look at the translation. I'm new to the newpage patrol and am still learning. N419BH (talk) 17:05, 15 April 2010 (UTC)[reply]
All recruits welcome! There is good advice on speedy tagging from an experienced admin at WP:10CSD and WP:A7M. JohnCD (talk) 17:10, 15 April 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Twinkle Issue

{{helpme}} When using twinkle to caution/warn a user, my signature is displayed in an odd box. How do I fix that automatically? I assume it is a template issue.

You probably have a leading space in your signature in your Preferences. If not, try copying and pasting the contents of the signature box from preferences (make sure to put <nowiki> tags around it) and use {{helpme}} again. --Darkwind (talk) 18:24, 16 April 2010 (UTC)[reply]
There is noting in my signature box; I am using the standard signature. N419BH (talk) 18:29, 16 April 2010 (UTC)[reply]
Hmm. I tested this, and it seems the default signature itself causes this problem. Try inserting something like "--[[User:N419BH|N419BH]] ([[User talk:N419BH|talk]])" (without the quotes) in the signature box in your preferences, and check the "Sign my name exactly as shown" box just below it. That should fix the problem (and remember that you'll have to insert a space before your ~~~~'s when leaving a manual comment). Darkwind (talk) 18:37, 16 April 2010 (UTC)[reply]
That fixed the problem; thank you. --N419BH (talk) 18:51, 16 April 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Request

If you use twinkle and watch recent edits, please make sure you also take a look at the discussion page (Karl Koch). A discussion was already one the way but no one was able to provide any reliable source for an important statement. the pov-statement in the article was therefor correctly deleted, at the very least till a reliable source is found. the previous state of the article was npov because it did not have speculations on his death. Reverting it without checking the quality of the article/the discussion is not really wise 188.109.94.111 (talk) 19:21, 17 April 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Revert

No actually it was perfect, it was a vandalism that actually deleted content. Snowolf How can I help? 01:44, 19 April 2010 (UTC)[reply]

CRLA

Hi there, and thanks for alerting me to the nomination of an article I began a while ago, California Rural Legal Assistance, for speedy deletion. However, I was unable to find it on the log for the day you notified me. Likewise, I did not see the article itself tagged for speedy deletion. And as of today, the article still exists. Finally, you allege that the article is a clear copyright violation. On whose copyright does it infringe? I am glad to work to avoid these issues, but I am usually pretty careful about that sort of thing. Any guidance you can offer as to what is violating copyright or what stage in the deletion process the article is currently would be appreciated. Thanks, --Rockero (talk) 03:59, 25 April 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Hi; Welcome aboard Wikipedia.

It appears you apparently got your "quote" of the NTSB probable cause statement from ASN's summary of that accident. While ASN is often a good source for some accident information, it is very important to compare what that site says, with the actual words of the NTSB, particularly when quoting the Probable Cause statement. In this case, some of what you quoted as being from the NTSB report, was in fact a re-wording by ASN. Accordingly, I replaced with the actual unabridged words of the NTSB report. Anytime a quotation is put in Wikipedia, it must be the actual word-for-word statement of the one that said it. Alterations of "quotations" are never permitted, for obvious reasons. Thanks much, EditorASC (talk) 23:32, 26 April 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Just a quick note to thank you for your help on the talk page. Sometimes, inputs like that, even though just a few words, is all it takes to finally achieve consensus. Cheers! EditorASC (talk) 00:53, 1 May 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Mr. Men Revert

Mr. Stupid is real

http://mrmen.wikia.com/wiki/Mr._Stupid Please click on it, and if I can't prove he's real, then how else can I prove anything?\

I give up

Even though Mr. Stupid is 100% real http://images3.wikia.nocookie.net/__cb20090802104420/mrmen/images/b/b5/Mr._Stupid.png I give up on making you guys believe me, I'm sorry for what I've been doing, and I KNOW FOR SURE there'll NEVER EVER EVER be a way for ANYONE to believe me I understand, he's not that popular anyway, I've my VERY HARDEST to make you believe me, I know I'll have to be Mr. Impossible to make you believe, but sadly I'm not, but there's this guy I know on Deviantart and The Mr. Men Wiki who hates vandilism and KNOWS Mr. Stupid is REAL!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Note

This dispute was resolved in favor of the IP editor. Mr. Stupid does indeed exist, and I was able to find third party documentation to this effect. The IP editor's contribution was restored, and an apology was issued on the editor's talk page. --N419BH (talk) 16:54, 1 May 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Rollback

Hello, per your request, I've granted you rollback rights. It's actually the first time I've assigned rollback (I only passed RfA today) so congrats! Anyway:

  • Rollback is only to be used for reverting obvious vandalism- for everything else, use one the Twinkle buttons or undo
  • If you make a mistake in editing, you can use rollback to revert yourself
  • Misuse or abuse will result in its removal by any admin
  • Take a look at WP:RBK and Help:Reverting to make yourself familiar with how the tool works
  • You can experiment with rollback at Wikipedia:New admin school/Rollback
  • Any questions, just ask on my talk page

Thanks, and congratulations on your successful RfA! --N419BH (talk) 20:43, 1 May 2010 (UTC)[reply]

I am sorry for vandalizing, i'll get to work making constructive edits

Readding db-hoax tag to History of Romania

Hi, you reinstated a {{db-hoax}} tag removed by an IP. I have removed the tag again as it is clearly a disruptive tag added to a sourced article as a misguided reaction of Cabbynet (talk · contribs) to my tagging of an article by that user as a hoax. Jarkeld (talk) 22:20, 1 May 2010 (UTC)[reply]

BP (British Petroleum)

It may have been unconstructive but it was true.

Nice work!

You beat me to a lot of vandalism today, and I'd like to recognise you for your efforts. Here's something from me. Go to {{WP:FTA]] for more available userboxes. Deagle_AP (talk) 06:16, 2 May 2010 (UTC)[reply]

recent undos on page: Astronaut, section: Civilian and non-government milestones

Hi, I got your messages and made an account. I would like to ask, how can I prevent this from happening again? What guidelines are there besides citing and commenting an edit?

Also, is this really the place to communicate? There's no PM system or anything?

hey someone else edited that page. You better run and call him a vandal as well! —Preceding unsigned comment added by 98.118.188.7 (talk) 04:33, 3 May 2010 (UTC)[reply]

As noted on editor's talk page, edit removed cited content without explanation in edit summary. --N419BH (talk) 04:42, 3 May 2010 (UTC)[reply]

The reason that article was reverted was to remove content added by one of his campaign employees, Mr. Daniel Branda. Please look before you shoot. 208.81.91.47 (talk) 15:24, 3 May 2010 (UTC)[reply]
