Image Commons vs Upload (ex-helpme)

I'd like to use images from a non-English version of wikipedia, licensed GFDL, and with clumsy names. Should I try to upload them to Commons (no experience with that), or should I simply re-upload them in the English version, with meaningful names? Не съм ходил много в града, но имам добри впечатления, а особено много харесвам и старата европейска архитектура на Русе. Между другото, според теб как е по-правилно (т.е. по-уместно, по-наложено и по-добре като цяло) да се изписва Русе на латиница, Rousse или Ruse? В момента е пълна какафония, всеки ползва което смята за добре, статията за областта е на Ruse Province, а града е на Rousse...

135 px is a bit too much, I think. But there's a problem already — images smaller than the given size are resized by the software and they look ugly. I checked how the Romanian template is done... does that "#if" thing make it check if it's not smaller before resizing?

Yep, SVG is the best we can get... some day. I came up with an idea — maybe we can include a size parameter so the users would choose whether to resize the coat of arms and how much? I think that would solve the problem. Todor→Bozhinov 21:26, 8 August 2006 (UTC)

Vangelia

In Greek, that name would be Βαγγελία. It is short for Ευαγγελία Evangelia and "Herald of the Blessed Word" is a likely interpretation of it. It is from ev (good) + angelos (messenger or herald) - this is where the word angel comes from. The Gospel is Ευαγγέλιο Evangelio in Greek, and literally means Good Announcement - if you consider the Gospel the "Blessed Word", then it can mean "Herald of the Blessed Word" ;-) --Telex 10:57, 11 August 2006 (UTC)

Belote

Hi! I see you've recently created and expanded the article Belote (Bulgaria). Do you know whether it is a different game from the one played in France, and briefly described at Belote? The rules seem very similar, and the fact that you use French names (belote, tierce, coinchée) leads me to believe that it is only one game. I've proposed to merge Belote (Bulgaria) into Belote. Bulgaria lead

Hi. I didn't remove 681 because it was wrong, but because the general phrasing was quite misleading. To call Bulgaria one of the most ancient countries of Europe, requires at least a source; as there certainly wasn't institutional continuity (Byzantine and Ottoman dominations, splittings). Instead the lead gives the idea of a continuity; and as for the name, also this requires a source, because it must awnser to WP:V. The only thing that can be said is that in 681 the Bulgars (not the Bulgarians) founded the first Bulgarian state.--Aldux 14:55, 21 August 2006 (UTC)

Well, they don't contain a month and a day, so they shouldn't be linked. It's up to you to decide whether you'd write it BC or BCE, the manual of style simply says "no periods" (e.g. no B.C.E. or B.C.). And by the way, also note "Do not use abbreviations like "Feb" unless space is precious in a table, infobox, or the like." I see you sometimes use these. Todor→Bozhinov 17:42, 21 August 2006 (UTC)

Balkh and "byal"

I know it's a sourced edit, but I don't think it has anything to do with the reality. Basically, "byal" and its derivatives is a word met in all Slavic languages and its frequent presence in toponyms is not in any way unique to Bulgaria and its medieval borders. Here's some: Bjelovar, Biograd na Moru (bio is bel in the local vernacular), Beli Manastir (all in Croatia), more than 10 in the little Slovenia (List of cities, towns, and villages in Slovenia/B), Bijeljina (Bosnia and Herzegovina), Bílina and another dozen (Czech Republic), Belgorod, Belovo, Beloretsk, Belogorsk and probably a hundred more (Russia), etc., etc. That said, I'm removing it. Yeah, I noticed it refers to the neighbouring area too. But the examples from Croatia, Slovenia, the Czech Republic and so on prove that "byal" and its forms are very popular in placenames all around Slavic Europe. The script is not as usable as I'd want it to be, but you can certainly do some quality assurance. :) If you copy the contents of A.js into your monobook.js, you will not be able to benefit from changes I make. Better do the following, as User:Lupin puts it:

“ Copy the following content into your monobook.js file. After it is saved, press CTRL+F5 to reload the monobook.js file. The "m" in "monobook.js" must be lowercase or this won't work! [...] Save the page and follow the instructions above the edit window to force-reload the page and clear your browser cache. ”

Well, that's how the complex is known, The Largo (see here, for example). I don't know of any other largos in Sofia, but even if there are, this is the one. Museum

Hi! Would you be OK with moving History Museum, Rousse to Rousse Regional Historical Museum like the Pleven and Plovdiv museums are currently named? Dunno... it sounds allright to me. "Historical museum" has 3,610,000 Google hits, while "history museum" has 10,200,000, but the latter also includes wordings like "Natural History Museum", "Women's History Museum", "Computer History Museum", which apparently aren't the same thing as simply "history museum". The situation in List of museums is also quite the same. Aniway, if we're to change the name, we should change all so as to have some sort of standard. Todor→Bozhinov 15:36, 8 October 2006 (UTC)

Shorthand

Hi, I just saw your (not only?) article about Bezenshek system in Bulgaria. And I realized there is a mistake in my site: "As a result, the 1923 version of Bezenšek-Gabelsberger remained official until the National Shorthand Institute was shut down in Democratic Bulgaria." I mean that Bezenshek used Gabelsberger's system from 1823 but really I wrote 9 instead of 8... There are 3 reforms in our shorthand, can remember the dates - about 190?, 194?, and 197? I have to check this, but the last reform is "active". Which is infact almost the same as this from 194?. Thanx for this article! Marvellous work as always! I've included it in the article and it does a great job to improve it further. Only one minor thing, is there a way to make those numbers assigned to the children go just a bit further to the right, because they're somewhat too close to the lines now. Hi there! Could you please adapt the Ivan Alexander family tree for my Simeon the Great article? I tried to do it myself, but I couldn't cope with the formatting of the children.

Yep, I've thought about it. Sursuvul shouldn't be displayed separately, but should be mentioned when referring to Simeon's second wife, (e.g. "2 Daughter of George Sursuvul"). Thanks, you've done a great job as always! I've already moved the article to the main namespace, and I've included the family tree. I have a few minor requests, though: could you move the line leading to Simeon exactly under the one leading down from Boris and Maria, and the same for the one leading to Peter and the one from Simeon? Also, could you move "daughter of George Sursuvul" to the right side of Simeon (I've removed 3, because it makes people think there was a third marriage), so that we could have some sort of balance? Yep, that's what I wanted, thanks again :) As for Ian Mladjov, he is an historian and instructor at the University of Michigan that I communicate with via e-mail. Timeline

Hi! I've added a timeline to the Simeon I article, but I used the one in the Hannibal article as an example and as a result I couldn't make it go from 860 (top) to 930 (bottom), and it goes inverted (as with BC dates). Transliteration

Let's face it — the new transliteration system is a total mess. I don't know what that tradition they're talking about is, and the way they're transliterating ъ is the silliest of all possible. I fully support scientific transliteration, and my logic is that if there is no "plain" (diacritic-free) Latin sign for ъ, then we should use a diacritic for it. And if we use a diacritic for it, then we should use diacritics for other letters that are otherwise represented with two Latin characters. Scientific transliteration is not perfect, yes, but it's easily back and forth convertible, unlike the official system. Still, we often have to stick to it with all its flaws. Yeah, I know you ain't a Tatar, that's why I don't have ANY respect for you (no offence), I know you are a mixture of a few shitty tribes. Though, I have great respect for the Tatars (nowadays too, e.g. the ppl of Tatarstan, Chuvashia, etc.), but not for the so called bulgarians who fight for a cause with false basis. And if this world worked properly, wikipedia would have been free of your forgeries, e.g. Jane Sandanski was one of the greatest Macedonians and fought against the bulgarian propaganda, BUT on the wikipedia article, there is a "QUOTE" (lol) where he mentions "free bulgarian Macedonia"... I mean, C'M ON! Do YOU belive in that nonsense? EVEN IF he were a bulgarian, could he say THAT in 1915? :O And, besides, let's say he DID say that (which he didn't), can you bring proof? ANY? No? Thank you.

Miscellaneous

Hi. I do not consider sockpuppetry and using open proxies to edit while blocked good-faith behaviour. This is harmful to Wikipedia and practically dissuades me from discussing anything with such users. I've already spent enough time disputing with his previous incarnation (see e.g. Talk:List of cities in Bulgaria) a year ago, and I know it's useless. I'd like to avoid his series of personal attacks and I'm trying not be involved in that "Stara Zagora is so ubercool" campaign which is being waged all over the Bulgarian Internet. What he only wants is to fill the Stara Zagora article with blatant POV and misleading information. And Wikipedia is not the place for that. You can check the Bulgarian Wikipedia talk page of bg:Стара Загора (mostly its archives) to see what happens when you discuss with that person (who tends to use a lot of accounts).

He doesn't care about the other cities and their pollution — his goal at the moment is the removal of the perfectly true bit about the pollution in Stara Zagora, and intends to do this by forking my sentence about the pollution and putting it everywhere he can, with misleading and fragmentary sources. What he'd like to see is Wikipedia presenting Stara Zagora as the most prosperous, biggest, cleanest and most attractive city in Bulgaria, which as you well know is not true and will not be the case at least in the foreseeable future. What we have to do is simply prevent that, because it's against the principles of Wikipedia... as are sockpuppetry and open proxies. Todor→Bozhinov 20:01, 5 May 2007 (UTC)

I can't block him, I'm not an admin :) I'm not wishing that he gets blocked, what I want is to prevent any further violations, one way or another. I'm a bit pessimistic about convincing him not to continue, because he clearly follows an agenda, but you can try.

Here's a nice bit of evidence that User:Groser = User:Хаха. On my page, he puts {{sockpuppet}} templates claiming that I'm a sockpuppet of FunkyFly and Tekleni (I'm a sockpuppet of two people? OK :)). If you see the history of the Stara Zagora article, FunkyFly has never had anything to do with Groser. He has only reverted Хаха, and that's where our puppeteer knows about him from. Opera & Philharmonic Society Rousse

Hi! Adviser not working

Your adviser script isn't working. I click on the suggestions and nothing happens. Nothing is highlighted. I click "fix" and nothing happens. Advisor.js

Hi, Cameltrader! Just wanted to thank for for the Advisor script and to make a request. I realize that the script did not generate much interest and only a handful of people use it, but perhaps, if it is not too much trouble, you would consider adding a feature to convert all Unicode entities present in the article being edited? From what I gather, that should not be terribly difficult.

Another thing that would be helpful is to add a non-breaking space before mdashes and ndashes if there was a regular space there originally.

By the way, I don't have the problems Wikidudeman describes above, except for the part when I click on a suggestion and nothing happens (true in IE and Opera; I have not tried Firefox). Fixes themselves are working just fine.
