Hi, and welcome to Wikipedia! If you're new to our community, drop us a note here and tell us a little bit about yourself. Most important, we would like to know about your interests, your areas of knowledge, and the sorts of things you'd like to work on here at Wikipedia. That makes it easier for us to help you start editing. We'd also appreciate it if you told us how you found out about Wikipedia.
- To add yourself to the list:
- post a comment,
- enter your name as the subject/headline (which will make a new header for you in the log), and
- sign your name at the end of your comment by typing four tildes: ~~~~. (This code makes a link to your user page, which readers can use to welcome you personally if they like).
- Your comments will then be added to the bottom of the list.
- To add yourself to the list:
You may also like to add yourself to other lists, such as the listing in order of arrival, by country, or by skills (such as translation or photography). Finally, if you want a little personal assistance in using or contributing to the site, you might go through one of the Bootcamps or you may wish to be adopted by an experienced editor.
An automatically generated list of new users can be found at Special:Log/Newusers.

Hi everyone. I am a South African academic, I teach law at a university in Cape Town, and my research interests currently lie in rhetoric and logic, race, legal theory, and legal pedagogy. I also participate as a curator and producer in arts projects relating to sound art, music, carnival and indigenous culture.
I especially hope to contribute to articles on South African law, since there don't seem to be many at the moment.
Please say hi, especially if you share interests!

Oduber History
Dr. Gustavo A. Oduber was born in February of 1928 to Simon “Champi” Quant Oduber and Sarah Oduber Arends. Dr. Oduber was kindly given the name Dolfi by his parents and friends at the time as he grew up on the Dutch Caribbean island of Aruba which is known as the ABC islands which included Curacao and Bonaire. Dr. Oduber went on to study at Mount St. Mary’s College in Emitsburg, Maryland and the youngest graduate from his class at the University of Maryland Dental School in 1953. His eloquence, intellect and commanding character was due to his strong genetics handed down from his distinguished family history and background when the first Oduber arrived from France via Spain during the French revolution in the mid 19th century. The name Oduber was originally spelt “Audubert”. His father was a member of the Panamanian Consulate on the island as well as president of the Rotary Club. As the Chinese immigrated to the Caribbean his father, by Dutch law governing the islands, for the Chinese families to be able to live in Aruba one must have an Aruban “guardian” thus making it legal to acquire residency. So Champi sign off for 5 Chinese families and up to today the descendants of both are well regarded as family for ever (Chinese way for honor + respect). Sarah, his mother was an astute business woman during the 1930’s to well over 1960’s which was very unusual thus making her somewhat ahead of her times. Dr. Oduber became the first dentist along with his friend Dr. Eloy Arends in Aruba as such he was involved in numerous functions in politics and had worked as a dentist for the government for some time. He was a senator for 16 years and at one point president of his party called Partido Patriotico Arubano (PPA). He was elected by the parliament as Minister of Education. During his tenure he was nominated to the first Latin American Congress in 1974 in Venezuela where he joined forces with his relative from Costa Rica Daniel Oduber who later became the first elected democratic president of Costa Rica in 1975. The John F. Kennedy Technical School was the first vocational School in Aruba that Dr. Oduber had the honor to name it after one of the greatest Presidents of the U.S. Dr. Oduber married Julia Leonor Quigley Figueroa from Puerto Rico who he met while in dental school. She was extremely talented and later on became one of the foremost primitive artists on the island. During their marriage they had four children Gustavo II (International Trader - www.transglobalresource.us) who resides today in Miami is also a pen & ink artist, Richard who lives in Frankfurt and is a Master Sergeant with 21 years in the U.S. Army (tours of Duties Gulf War I and Afghanistan), Glenn a contractor today, and of course their beloved sister Carmen who is a successful business woman both residing in Aruba. Today all four children have one of the largest collections of Dutch Caribbean paintings. —Preceding unsigned comment added by TransGlobal (talk • contribs) 10:11, 4 November 2007 (UTC)

Ted Beaudoin - Donating 3 key chapters of my aviation history / biography / adventure book (on WWII operation known as RAF Ferry Command) to Wikipedia
By way of introduction, I am Ted Beaudoin, a 67-year old (on Nov. 27, 2007) freelance writer and amateur aerospace - aviation history buff in Laval, QC, Canada – a suburb immediately north of Montréal.
I wish to donate to the Wikipedia section dealing with RAF Ferry Command – and later to whatever sections exist on Air Canada and Canadian Pacific Air Lines - three complete chapters about Ferry Command, fully extracted from my first aviation-adventure-biography-history book.
To establish my credentials:
The title and ISBN of my book are: Title: Walking on Air ISBN: 0-921531-00-1 CIP - Cataloguing in Publication, Canada, Type and size – Quality paperback, 300 pages Published: 1986 Paramount House Publishing Ltd., Vernon, B.C., Canada.
Paramount is no longer in business. I am the full owner of © in clear and unfettered title to the contents of the book. I will be re-issuing it soon as a new book, expanded by 100+ pages and will feature never-before-published photographs, perhaps with the same title, but if different, under one of two working titles: As Luck Would Have It … And Did, or as Earth Angels. Further, I have committed to donate the entire contents of Walking on Air to Project Gutenberg, a project on which I have now started to complete. It will run concurrently with progress that I make if my donation to Wikipedia is viewed as legitimate, citable, and accepted.
The new book will also form the basis for my first commercial-and-for-profit 3-hour long dramatic military – civilian aviation adventure movie which will bear a new title to differentiate it from its foundation book: Earth Angels Rising.
I am concurrently blocking out the synopses for both the book and its accompanying movie scenario and script.
Before I go any further, there are a couple of things I think you should know about Walking on Air. The book is no longer in print. I have one of the few remaining copies. It sold nearly 5,000 copies – most of them west of Winnipeg, Manitoba, when first published: almost making it a Canadian best-selling quality paperback book, but not quite. Some copies remain around the world, and are still available for sale from various private book collectors.
I am donating the relevant chapters on Ferry Command (Chapters 7, 8 and 9 – Pages 175 – 228) in Walking on Air as the start of my own personal tribute to the thousands of yet-to-be-fully-recognized men and women in North America and elsewhere – all unsung civilian heroes of the first cut who came to the rescue of all of the Allied Armed Forces during the early and extremely dangerous stages of World War II – when civilian power pulled an interesting twist on who helps who when push comes to shove – the military helping civilians or civilians helping the military: In this case, civilians in many countries came to the aid of military might to help defeat what was then considered world-domineeering Axis powers of Germany and Japan.
I am putting a very human face on our world’s commercial and military aviation history, one that’s been missing for some time.
I want to make this contribution to help these living and now-deceased civilians receive formal thanks and help secure for them some kind of suitable public recognition from free world governments before they all die unheralded.
If all I succeed with my proposed donation to Wikipedia and to Project Gutenburg is provide at least a previously-unpublished and therefore new one-man tribute to them then I will have merited a JWD – Job Well Done: thus the pseudonym as the author of the expanded book and movie, and my e-mail address, J.W. Dunn – jwdunn@sympatico.ca.
With my contribution recognizing some of them and their incredible efforts, these World War II civilians, their families today and their colleagues can now stand tall and proud of having helped this planet survive a vicious unprovoked attack on the very freedoms which I and my children so fully enjoy today. I have never known war. I grew up in Canada in complete and safety from any harm since my birth in 1940.
The major difference, it seems, between the mauraders of yesterday and today’s just-as-frightening terrorism - in whatever name or cause - is simple … we knew the enemy then. We do not know the enemy today. The terrorists of yesteryear were clear in their mission: global conquest. Today’s terrorists only want to destroy and not replace what they destroy with anything better.
We enjoy our freedoms today in the free world thanks to the superb human effort of WW II civilians in coming to the rescue of their Allied Governments and their Allied Armed Forces. The military forces of the Allies then took up the cudgel, blending military and civilian crews from all walks and professions of life. They made possible the greatest air movement the world has ever seen – and hopefully will never need to see again - of nearly 20,000 + aircraft (including 10,000+ bombers) in less than four running years, straight out of American aircraft manufacturing plants where they were made to where they were badly needed the most - over the African / European and Asian theatres of war. (I will be using British English as a writing / spelling standard since this story does come from Canada.)
In closing my submission, I wonder: would donating the entire three chapters on Ferry Command be too much material to include in the web pages of Wikipedia? Perhaps your medium cannot accommodate my offer. Could you advise me please of (1) the viability of my offer, and (2), if acceptable, the work itself?
Thank you for taking the time to read this. I would be more than happen to send to any Wikipedia administrator (yes, I have scanned the welcome pages as thoroughly as I could … good reading, by the way) my current curriculum vitae.
Sincerely, Ted Beaudoin, 4710 Chemin du Souvenir, Laval, QC- H7W 1C8 Tel.: 450 – 978-5250.

The Founders Intent
I have a variety of interests, but notably colonial history of America and government, aviation, automobiles, and politics.
My username obvious comes from the premise that the US Constitution as originally conceived by the Founders was basically timeless, but these well-read and well educated men understood the governments of the world and throughout history. They based their choice for the US not primarily on a particular time in history but on the character of men throughout history. They understood well the tendency toward corruption, and attempted to build a constitution to overcome this tendency to the maximum extent possible.
I would also like to be able to help however small to build and improve the accuracy of this online encyclopedia. Contact me anytime if you find a topic in my profile that I can help you with.--The Founders Intent 17:58, 9 November 2007 (UTC)

Hi,
I am a Patriot who works at the National Museum of Patriotism headquartered in Atlanta, Georgia. I am here mainly to give interesting facts about the National Museum of Patriotism and to keep you updated with all the patriotic happenings. Not all patriots are cool like ourselves but we tend to like America for what she is. Our definition of a Patriot is anyone who makes America a better place to live. By educating yourselves on Patriotism and by practicing good patriotic habits, hopefully, you'll identify yourselves as Patriots. Hi my name is Amit Jain , I am working with Indian software MNC Polaris Software Lab. I have used Wikipedia extensively, mostly guided to it through Google. Now a days whenever I want to know anything about anything , i just go to google and type that thing and append the word wikipedia to it and it takes me directly to the world of wikipedia. Even when I am watching a movie on my laptop and i dont understand anything , i pause the movie , go to wikipedia read about the movie and then start watching again. Wikipedia is amazing thing happened in this decade.
I am interested in field of Information technology companies working in BFSI(Banking ,Finance,Services , Insurance) , my company is also in same category so I have fair idea of this field , so can contribute but will need some one guidance in doing so or an experienced editor to help me start in that direction.
I am also interested in movies and article related to country India.
What makes Wikipedia so special , in my view, is its self-governance and user driven content. Wikipedia is sea of knowledge :-)

Pallida Mors 76
Greetings! I have been a reader of Wikipedia for a long time. Now I'm finding my way arround here to make some edits/contributions. I find it useful and fun.
I'm an economist, pursuing a PhD program. The theoretical economic field I know more about is Game Theory, though I find myself confortable in any microeconomic topic. I hope I could make some contributions in those areas, specially when I have some more time.
I love to make my bit at the reference desk, whenever I can. I'm able to handle some math stuff, as well as Spanish language questions.
Forgive me any mistake or inappropiate actions I could make here; surely that may happen on ignorance, but not out of bad faith. Pallida Mors 03:51, 18 November 2007 (UTC)

Hi everyone,
I have just joined this interesting and diverse network. I have been an avid follower of Wiki for quite some time and figured that I should become a member. I write and produce many reports and eBooks all relating to Internet marketing. Also My partner and I have produced several digital software programs that truly benefit all who wish to seek making a tidy living fron online marketing. My work relating to Online marketing has taken me to Russia several times. It was there that we had many of our programs developed. The lads in Russia are hard working and very dedicated to their work and their expertise is equal (if not better)to those of the western world. I would highly recommend them. I shall be searching through this interesting resource and offering, as much as seeking, advice on the variable areas of online marketing.
If you have any questions regarding this subject then please don't hestite to drop me a note. I look forward to meeting many other readers.
Regards to all

Salutations
I've been using Wikipedia for a few years now and I recently decided to become a member. I would like to thank Grand Roi des Citrouilles for posting a welcome message on my talk page just 42 hours after I joined. So, how do you find new users? I would like to find out so I can help out with welcoming them as well. Also, you may want to consider archiving a portion of this page. I don't mean to complain, but it is really long (153 kb+) and annoying to scroll through. Do you mind if I do the archive?
Anyway, I was just wondering if there is a page that lists some common edit summary shorthand words. I try to write summaries for all my posts, but I'm not very familiar with the edit summary shorthand.
Thanks, Thingg 04:56, 3 December 2007 (UTC)
P.S. Please respond on my talk page. Thanks (not trying to be rude/arrogant, just easier that way.)
Glad to be here
Hi everyone,
My name is Peggy Brennan. I am from Troy, Michigan, am married and have 3 grown children. My husband and I founded a grassroots environmental organization called Great Lakes Green Initiative in 2005.
A little background: I learned about wikis when completing a library and information science degree at University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee (2005), and was very excited about the idea of such a collaborative project. I actually developed my own wikis well before adding anything to Wikipedia (Great Lakes Green Initiative and Fr. Jack website). Once I learned wiki editing, there was no turning back to traditional website editing!
My husband and I went to Wikimania 2 years ago to celebrate our 28th wedding anniversary, and had a great time.
I have put a couple of small links into wikipedia, such as a link to Great Lakes Green Initiative's rain barrel page on your rain barrel page, but only last week finally put up an entire page: John A. Trese.
Thanks so much for all the hard work you all do! You are an inspiration to me. --Peggy Brennan 20:37, 4 December 2007 (UTC)
Bleeding Blue
Well, I'm a student at Boise State University in Idaho, and have been reading WP for a long time. I finally decided to take a stab at contributing to it.
My interests include sports (Mostly MLB and NFL), video games (Nintendo), and some math/logic stuff. I also play a lot of cards. After I get a hang of this thing hopefully I'll become a regular contributor in those areas.
The name comes from the fact that all of my sports teams (Seahawks, Mariners, BSU Broncos) use blue as their primary color, seemed clever at the time I guess. Here's hoping for smooth sailing! Bleeding Blue (talk) 03:29, 5 December 2007 (UTC)
BREW Ninja has arrived
Hey! So, I primarily joined since I wanted to give due credit to a collegue which created the Tux Paint educational software. He's well known in the programming industry, but no entry has been made for his red link in the article.
I'm a Quality Assurance technician for a mobile games and application firm in the San Francisco Bay Area in California, and a full time student at the University of Phoenix working on my Bachelor's in Computer Science.
My interest are varied, but mostly center around gaming and video/film production.
I can be found on YouTube as the BREW Ninja as well.
I've spent the better part of the last four years in my field of Computer Science, working in various video game companies throughout Northern and Southern California. I'm also a freelance fiction writer, but have yet to get anything "officially" published. I am working on it, though...

Andrew E. joining the Wikipedia editors' group
Hi, my name is Andrew. I live in Fort Mc Murray, Alberta, Canada. I contributed one Wikipedia entry already, for which a stub was provided. Hope to add another one, for which there is no stub, so I have to browse through the help pages to find out how this is done. Hope to see your contributions! Siddhartha
Hi all,
I am Siddhartha from Mumbai, India. I had been a user of all wiki's such as wikipedia and wikimapia and I dont know how I came to know about them since they have been so popular and giving such an excellent content whenever I have searched for an article, place or anything else.
My interest have been in the area of software design and architecture. I thought of contributing for an article on Front Controller which I did not see in english in Wikipedia.
So thats about me.
