Ipod touch battery

On apple's website it says "A properly maintained iPod battery is designed to retain up to 80% of its original capacity at 400 full charge and discharge cycles".

This is a load of bullshit. I bought my 8gb touch in late 2008 and I barely use it (average 1charge per 2weeks) and now my battery lasts for a few minutes! This is what happens: I charge it for 48hours to make sure it has full energy, listen for 15minutes, the bar drops quite a bit (1 tenth). Then I put it to sleep. Now I come back next day only to find the bar half depleted, then a day after that it's useless. Could you call it leak? I take great care and never damaged it. What's going on? It should be able to last more than 2 days on standby, though. I'm not sure what iPod batteries are like, could it be that overcharging the battery (48 hours is a very long charge) has damaged it? --Tango (talk) 23:23, 4 August 2010 (UTC)[reply]

I think it's unlikely the iPod is that crap since even a cheap phone or MP3 player is generally designed not to overcharge the battery. I'm pretty sure the iPod must have a li-co or li-po batteries which aren't able to accept a trickle charge. A trickle charge or overcharging has a tendency to cause damage which can result in the 'venting with flame' which such batteries are somewhat infamous for, so any quarter decent charger should cut off the charge completely when the battery has reached the target voltage.

However one thing to be aware of is li-co and li-pol batteries do degrade of time even without use. 50% or less of the original capacity within 1-2 years even without a great deal of use isn't uncommon AFAIK. Storing such batteries in the cold does help, you should also store them at about 40% charge (more precisely about 3.7V is the normal recommendation for long term storage I believe). This also means I suspect that while li-co and li-pol batteries don't have a memory effect, continual toping up the charge probably doesn't help the lifespan. Clearly the average temperature where you live is going to have an effect and if you regularly store your iPod on a heater for some odd reason this isn't going to help its battery lifespan.

Also remember we are talking averages here. Some batteries will do worse then others.

Silly Season

What up?

I added an article about a band called Silly Season from Sweden under "silly season". Someone called Mono removed it and called it (Irrelevant self promotion removed).http://en.wikipedia.org/w/index.php?title=Silly_season&action=history

Is that not allowed? One can find every other band in the world here.. Is it cause it's not a famouse band or the fact that i play in it?

Been trying to "talk" to Mono without luck.

Well for a start if there is a band called Silly Season their article would not go in the main Silly season article, they would have to have their own article. But more importantly, in order for there to be an article the band needs to be notable. See Wikipedia:Notability and, particularly important, Wikipedia:Notability (music). In a nutshell your band won't be important enough to merit their own article unless they have already received coverage in reliable independent sources such as books, newspapers and magazines. Zangalewa

Tracing the African sources of Shakira's "Waka Waka (This Time for Africa)", I found this 1986 full-length video of the Cameroonian ensemble Golden Sounds performing their subsequently eponymous song, "Zangaléwa" (see from 7'34" for the popular, shorter video as shown on YouTube). Two queries:

Is there a particular Cameroonian association with the Jack-o'-lantern motif on the back of the performers' jackets in the opening scene?
Which of the performers (if any) is the Golden Sounds' lead singer Jean Paul Zé Bella?

Trouble with stating something. Help!

Hey wikipedia. On one of my sandboxes, I am working on a section for The Last Airbender article. The article states everything perfectly. However, when trying to "convert" it to information that will be suitable for wikipedia, I am overcome with "Wikipedia Writer's block". Are there any suggestions? Brooklyn Bridge view

There is a common image at the foot of the Brooklyn Bridge, looking northeast to Manhattan I guess, with the bridge spanning across the view, and when the World Trade Center was there, it was in the background on the left. It's not just one picture but apparently it is a common place to take pictures or do all sorts of other things...I am thinking specifically of the Ryan Adams video for New York New York, which was filmed there. From Google maps I am guessing this view of the bridge and Manhattan is from the Empire-Fulton Ferry State Park, but I'm not entirely sure. There are a number of good view points of the Brooklyn Bridge. The Empire-Fulton Ferry State Park provides a view looking southwest of the bridge with downtown Manhattan behind it. On the southern side of the bridge, Brooklyn Bridge Park provides a view looking north with the rather distant Empire State Building behind. On the Manhattan side, South Street Seaport provides a view looking east-northeast with the Manhattan Bridge and Williamsburg Bridge behind. Name of Italian TV game show

About 10 years ago, I saw a strange Italian game show, which I hope that someone will recognise. Since I don't speak Italian, it was difficult to determine exactly what was going on, but I think contestants had to answer 10 questions, and they had already been given the answers. The most striking aspect of the program was the dance troupe, in high cut shorts and low cut tops, doing walkovers and the slits. I think the title has something to do with a wolf, perhaps "Watch out for the wolf". A wolf howl was played at random intervals. Any ideas? --TrogWoolley (talk) 15:35, 5 August 2010 (UTC)[reply]

It was probably In bocca al lupo! (literally: "into the wolf's mouth", but used as an ironic wish of good luck, sort of like Break a leg! [2]). The show was moderated by Carlo Conti who has presented a large number of TV shows, most of which include a female troupe dancing and posing and goofing around, sometimes called vedette (or '"professoresse" in one show). The show's website has videos of some recent episodes. Two of the episodes you're interested in are there. According to List of Cyberchase characters, TW Parallini is also in episode 801, "The Hacker's Challenge", which is on the show's website. (Although I don't know if the same voice actor was used for both episodes.) I wrote down the credits you're interested in.

I can't find this anywhere, perhaps I am not looking in right spot. I've read All-Star game article and the records page: Who has made the MLB all-star team with the most teams? I can't imagine anyone making the All-Star game with more teams. Major League Baseball All-Star Game records does not mention this record. The first guy I though of who might beat it would have been Gary Sheffield, who made 9 all-star games with 5 teams (1992 & 1993 Padres, 1996 & 1998 Marlins, 1999 & 2000 Dodgers, 2003 Braves, 2004 & 2005 Yankees), thus only tying Alou. Even bigshot Hollywood producers and directors — and something tells me you are not this type of bigshot — don't cast their voice actors right off a list. The process of voice casting (a tiny stub article on Wikipedia, surprisingly — even Casting (performing arts) is super short) involves contacting the agents of great voice actors, of whom Dan Castellaneta and Hank Azaria are currently probably the kings. If they're interested, then even they have to audition for the voice roles; the producer or director sends the agent the script, and the actor typically spends a couple of hours in his favorite local studio, recording the auditions for many roles in a single session (to save money and time). The producer or director, or, actually more likely, their casting director, listens to 10 or 20 tapes and makes choices accordingly. So, assuming you have the Hollywood power and credibility that would be necessary to get WB to listen to you about this awesome task of creating the Jetsons movie, I'd start by reviewing the credits of animated movies that have characters whose voices you have loved. how do people who think a movie should be made but do not live in holliwood get an idea to a company. Would e-mailing the idea to them for consideration work? Because i think it is high time that a new style jetsons animated movie should be made. I would like to know what to do to convince someone like ccraig McCracken to help me with a movie like this, as i am a big fan of some of his shows. And voice actors i particularly like, most of them have been on shows such as futurama, kids next door, foster's home for imaginary friends, danny phantom, the life and times of juniper lee, wordgirl, kim possible, and other such shows I do not mean i am going to actualy make the movie, i am just wondering about if they take my idea, and or if i can get someone like Craig McCracken to help me do this, even though i live in canada. I should have reworded my question above, so i will here. If they did make a new animated jetsons movie, who do you think would do the voices for what characters on it? Sorry i didn't put it that way before.

I'm sure there are many ways to contact a company with ideas – email, snail mail, telephone etc. – but I'm also pretty sure that the companies in question (such as WB) receive thousands of such communications every year, and most likely pay little attention. If you are very lucky you may receive a form letter from some PR drone explaining that they won't be following up your suggestion. A better method may be to try to drum up support for such an idea and create a buzz amongst fans – if enough people seem keen on the idea the studios may take notice, but that too is a very long shot.

As for your question about who might star in the hypothetical Jetsons movie, that kind of speculation isn't really what the reference desk is for and you may wish to ask such questions in a more appropriate forum. For the last twenty years at least, the major movie studios have avoided taking unsolicited ideas from the public. They all fear that if you write them a letter with a movie idea or outline, then even if they don't read the letter, 10 years will go by, the movie studio will come out with a movie that has similar elements, and then you will appear from the woodwork and sue them vengefully for copying your intellectual property. This happens regularly; there's at least one such lawsuit going on over Twilight. Disney, for example, is one movie studio which, if you send them an unsolicited script, will have a paralegal send you back a form letter saying "We didn't even read your script". What I might do in the position of the original poster is to (a) write the best Jetsons movie script that is possible for a human to write; obtain a talent agent, and have the agent sell the script to WB or an interested producer. Obviously a tall order. (B) Start a Facebook group called "We want an animated Jetsons movie!" with whatever details are relevant, and try to promote it and get 7 million Facebook users to "Like" the group. WB, and whoever else owns any rights to the Jetsons, won't be able to help but take notice. Comet Tuttle (talk)

You can check out who recently won awards for best voice acting: For example: The Primetime Emmy Award for Outstanding Voice-Over Performance, the Annie Award (2007 winners here, scroll down a bit). or the Voicey Award. But you don't seem to get it. There is no absolute truth about who is the most talented voice actor. It's all a matter of opinion. A forum is a place where such opinions can be traded and expressed, but the Reference Desk is not such a place. We deal in factual things that can be looked up in a reference book, like how many people died in the New Orleans hurricane, or what is the capital of Nigeria, or how many Prime Ministers of Iceland have there been. Jack FM Regional Playlists

I am a big fan of the radio franchise Jack FM (despite how they "play what they want"). I have skimmed the article but have not figured out: Is the playlist varied in size depending on which station it is? EG, does one in California have more/different songs than one in Massachusetts? If you're talking about List of What's with Andy? episodes, "Don't Shoot the Messenger" is episode 56. Since they started the production codes at 101 (for whatever reason), the production code is thus 156. Adam Bishop (talk) 05:55, 8 August 2010 (UTC)[reply]

They may have started at 101 to indicate season 1, episode 01. "Don't Shoot the Messenger" is the fourth episode in season 3, so 304 would fit with that reasoning (although production and airing schedules can differ). Which source uses that production number? (edit conflict) I may be wrong, but I don't think it is usual for an American to refer to a football player as a 'footballer', instead preferring the aforementioned term 'football player'. As far as I can tell almost all references to gridiron players as 'footballers' tend to be made by foreigners (from a US perspective) for whom football more usually means soccer or another variant. If the OP was such a person they would have almost certainly disambiguated 'American footballers' if necessary. If they were referring to rugby or Aussie Rules one would expect them to be aware enough of the sport's relatively lesser status globally and therefore disambiguate those also.

In answer to the question this source indicates that it is Lionel Messi who earns $43.3m a year. That includes endorsements as well as his reputed $292k/pw salary (~$15m per annum), though I expect that is a record on its own – it's almost 50% higher than Ronaldo's paltry $200k. Of course that report is now two months old so who knows what has changed since then, and what will change in the coming weeks prior to the closure of the transfer window. Also, you'll have noticed that the linked report only lists players from the World Cup, and as such David Beckham is not mentioned. Sports Illustrated just tackled this question with their Fortunate 50 U.S. and highest 20 international athletes ranked by total income from playing + endorsements. (Unfortunately, to the writer, "international" means "foreigners" — David Beckham is on the "international" list though he's playing for Major League Soccer in the US — so to get the real "international" list you'll have to open the two web pages and read them simultaneously.) I can only comment on this from my own experience of participating in sports, but I notice that as I become less hydrated the saliva which builds up in the mouth has a thicker consistency, even coming close to the consistency of a light syrup. This combined with shortness of breath makes swallowing very difficult, even leading to choking/coughing, so one feels forced to spit to get rid of excess saliva. My level of fitness and quality of diet are, however, severely lacking compared to professional athletes, so my experience may not be analogous to theirs. AJ Cham 13:59, 8 August 2010 (UTC)[reply]

To get rid of 'flem' or 'spit' from their mouth which may be making it more difficult to breath as easily/comfortably. Obviously there's potentially spitting 'at' people out of aggression, perhaps even some doing it out of 'habit' or 'nerves' or something but generally it'll be to get spit out of their mouth. Well, I tried using that Tineye thing and it only came up with one image which was a link to a dailymotion video that wasn't there anymore.
