Final Fantasy IV FA status
*This for Tifa
*This for Kefka

FYI- Final Fantasy IV is in need of some maintenance or it could very easily be taken to FAR. The article falls under 4 cleanup categories, some of which have been dated for a while.
I found these and need some information behind them. Do they appear in any artbooks, or have any notes that could be cited in respective articles for the characters?--Kung Fu Man (talk) 07:56, 7 January 2009 (UTC)
*Articles with unsourced statements (Aug 2008)
*Wikipedia articles with plot summary needing attention (Oct 2008)
*Articles to be expanded (Jan 2009)
*Articles with dead external links (Mar 2009)

At the very least, fixing the plot summary and dead links should buy it some more time, and are probably the least daunting of the list. (Guyinblack25 talk 21:51, 9 March 2009 (UTC))

What happened? There are rambling plot summaries and de-featured articles everywhere, and not all of it is because the "perfect sources only, please" police are on the prowl. Are there any FF project regulars left? Is there a gameplan? Or are there simply not enough sources to justify even trying anymore? Is a reboot of all non-essential articles necessary? — Deckiller 18:54, 12 January 2009 (UTC)
:I'm pretty active, though working to get the Advent Files, as to imrove Last Order: Final Fantasy VII and Characters of Final Fantasy VII. After that, it's improving Vincent Valentine and Zack Fair. And, according to his page, User:The Prince of Darkness is working to get Final Fantasy VII Advent Children, Sephiroth (Final Fantasy), and Hitoshi Sakimoto to GA. And it's not only us; there is a handful of people who may not appear to be active, but are monitoring some articles and improving others. Right now, it's just that many people are in college/school and have other things to worry about. During the summer, the project becomes more active again. As for articles be delisted as GAs and FAs, could you point me to some? Many follow guidelines set in place awhile ago, which is why they were being delisted--they aren't up to par with today's quality. However, maybe I could improve some...WhiteArcticWolf (talk) 21:57, 12 January 2009 (UTC)
:As WhiteArcticWolf said, I'm currently working on some articles for GA, also including Final Fantasy (video game), which I believe is ready. I won't be able to contribute very actively because I'm in my last year of high school and I kinda need to take things seriously. However, I plan on working extensively on the games that I've played (FFVIII and FFIX) to make sure they are of decent quality and worthy of FA/GA status; FFVII and FFX have been taken care of. Other than WhiteArcticWolf, PresN, and me, members of the project don't seem to be active anymore. BTW, I'm not actually a member, I only like editing FF articles. ::The FFVIII topic is pretty much fine except for that supposedly questionable source, but I'm sure FFIX's subarticles need work. FFVIII was the benchmark topic for works on fiction for 2+ years, and I'm sure it still is up there. — Deckiller 03:39, 13 January 2009 (UTC)
:I'm poking at Tifa Lockhart and considering a Kefka article if I can find more sources. :I'm alive (barely)- school was kicking my ass (last year of college), and I've been working all winter break, but I'm trying to gear up to take Discography of FF7 to FAC again. I've got ReMix at GAN right now, which I'm hoping will get me in the mood to take Music of Final Fantasy to GA completing the GoodTopic. If I'm still going at that point, I'll move to DiscofFF12, which should have some more "reliable" sources, as I'm going to have to fight tooth and nail to get RPGFan allowed at FAC. --PresN 15:40, 13 January 2009 (UTC)

Please join the discussion on whether this article meets featured article criteria. Articles are typically reviewed for two weeks. Always good to see at least a few people involved. I don't know if you guys recognize me (many of you are fairly new), but feel free to take a look at my userpage for my history with the project. In the past (and it feels like a lifetime ago), I specialized in three areas: fiction articles, admin duties, and copy-editing. I think there is still potential for a major activity surge; if we start now, we can repair the foundation upon which the influx of summer editors will be able to build. Foundations start from the bottom, and in our case, that would be the general sub-articles. If we can get the borderline notable articles in the project to Good Article status (or merge until we can attain that status), then we can ride that momentum into repairing the major articles — and by that point, the summer editors will be here to assist, and teams can begin working on bringing the main articles back to their prime.

Merger discussion
What do I mean by "borderline articles"? I'm referring mostly to articles that require the "three-pronged test" for notability: the elements within the fictional works, such as the character, setting, and gameplay articles not yet of decent quality. Most of the merges were done in 2006 and 2007; everything has been organized and outlined, leaving us with the task of improving the quality of the material.
I think the team aspect remains the best way of editing. For instance, PresN is excellent with everything related to the audio aspects, while my specialty is overall tweaking/copy-editing/trimming/managing. I'm sure others are into finding sources or articulating the gameplay aspects (always a weakness of mine).

At WT:VG, we're jumpstarting our inactive/limited-scope project initiative, which is aimed at streamlining and centralizing video game coverage on Wikipedia. I can see from the archives that a previous proposal on this subject was held in December, but there wasn't much discussion. What I'd like to do is talk with members of the FF project and determine if you're interested in becoming a task force within WP:VG. I think you're doing great work, but the scope of this project is relatively small (the main page says 158 articles). Joining WP:VG would allow us to centralize discussion on Final Fantasy articles and hopefully expose all video game articles to a wider range of editors. The Square Enix project, while larger in scope than Final Fantasy, seems to be less active and I'll be contacting them as well. The way I look at it, there are several options:
Combining these strengths allows us to divide the work into manageable units; weaknesses are covered, leading to articles that have few flaws. But I'm rambling; these are ships that can sail when the time comes. Could that time be sooner rather than later? The winds could very well be favorable enough. — Deckiller 04:23, 13 January 2009 (UTC)

*FF and SE merge with VG and become the Square Enix taskforce. This would be the best option, in my opinion—it would create an ideal taskforce, one with a large scope and hopefully many active members.

Rinoa Heartilly delisted as GA, downgraded to C
Article alerts
I know this won't be an incredibly popular move, but after a discussion here, I have to agree with A Man in Black and Megata Sanshiro: this isn't a GA quality article. The primary bulk is the plot section, while reception is skeletal and development feels lacking, especially in comparison to other character articles that are at GA.

This is a notice to let you know about Article alerts, a fully-automated subscription-based news delivery system designed to notify WikiProjects and Taskforces when articles are entering Articles for deletion, Requests for comment, Peer review and other workflows (full list). The reports are updated on a daily basis, and provide brief summaries of what happened, with relevant links to discussion or results when possible. A certain degree of customization is available; WikiProjects and Taskforces can choose which workflows to include, have individual reports generated for each workflow, have deletion discussion transcluded on the reports, and so on. An example of a customized report can be found here.
Should point out too this has an effect readily on the FFVIII Featured Topic.--Kung Fu Man (talk) 16:16, 28 January 2009 (UTC)
:Yeah, the FFVIII topic is as of today under a 3 month retention. If by 28 March Rinoa Heartilly is not back to GA, then the topic can be nominated for removal - rst20xx (talk) 19:17, 28 January 2009 (UTC)
::I haven't read the whole discussion as it's too long for me, but I agree: the article is not of Good Article quality. I'd suggest merging it to the characters article if no more real-world content can be found and inserted in the article. If you are already subscribed to Article Alerts, it is now easier to report bugs and request new features. We are also in the process of implementing a "news system", which would let projects know about ongoing discussions on a wikipedia-wide level, and other things of interest. The developers also note that some subscribing WikiProjects and Taskforces use the
display=none
parameter, but forget to give a link to their alert page. Your alert page should be located at "Wikipedia:PROJECT-OR-TASKFORCE-HOMEPAGE/Article alerts". Questions and feedback should be left at Wikipedia talk:Article alerts.

Also, I know it's off-topic, but I might as well ask: does anyone know where to find White Silk? I'm trying to make the White Misanga, but can't find any. Apparently it can be found in Rebena Te Ra, but I've scoured the place and found none. Again, help would be appreciated. :It's nice to see someone eager to help out:) For FFCC, try cutting down the in-universe stuff. Really, it just needs a plot section and character list, with the option of a setting section. The connectivity section needs to be read through and disposed of any biased statement. The development section needs major work, and should deffinately be expanded on. Expand a little bit on the reception and legacy section, or as much as you can. The sequel games won't need as much; they are covered in their own articles. Maybe just release dates, and don't put them all in one sentence. I understand that the manga may be a little difficult to find information on, but really just see if you can find release dates and a plot. Also, expand a bit on the lede; ledes don't need to be referenced, because everything written should be covered in the article. I hope this helps! Oh, and you can always get a peer review to help you. I'd like to help, but at this time I'm pretty busy with other articles and school. WhiteArcticWolf (talk) 21:23, 29 January 2009 (UTC)
:In addition to the above, the audio section needs some reworking, but don't worry about that- I'm currently working on the FFCC discography article (in addition to the DoFF7 FAC, feel free to comment at it!), so once that gets submitted to GA, I'll update this article's audio section accordingly. --PresN 22:26, 29 January 2009 (UTC)

Request for assistance at Gameplay of Final Fantasy
Coordinators' working group
I've been hard at work on this article over the past few days. It's not really my domain of expertise, but I've found a few great sources that discuss common parts of the gameplay in the series. This includes the battle system, certain character classes, magic, and even modes of transport.

The last part that's proving really hard is the stuff about equipment. Yes, it's true that most games in the series have a Genji Glove. But I can't verify that for the life of me. I'd like to verify this kind of thing without using 12 different strategy guides, if at all possible. But I wanted to see if any of you wanted to give it a shot.

Check out Gameplay of Final Fantasy and see what you can do. The prose could be improved, if nothing else. Randomran (talk) 01:47, 4 April 2009 (UTC)
Hi! This group has been created after discussion regarding possible changes to the A-Class review system, and that may be one of the first things discussed by interested coordinators.

Common elements of Final Fantasy was renamed to Character design of Final Fantasy, and everything in it that didn't fit was merged to Gameplay of Final Fantasy, which had originally split off from Common Elements back in November. Then, Recurring character names of Final Fantasy and Monsters of Final Fantasy were merged to Character design of Final Fantasy; leaving as the only side articles "Gameplay", "Character Design", "Character Classes", "Minigames", and "Music"- the ones that are listed at the bottom of the Final Fantasy series template. * Sounds about right. The common elemets had become a potpouri. Over the course of a few months, we pulled a few parts out. Now the plot stuff is in the main final fantasy series article. I find that when articles have clearer scope, they tend to attract less original research. Randomran (talk) 20:06, 13 April 2009 (UTC)

Welcome to the discussion page. This page provides space for community members to discuss housekeeping, project and article issues. Click here to add an issue to the discussion below, or here to edit the page to respond to a specific issue.

Effective May 2007, all topics with the

template will be archived after three to five days. This keeps the talkpage fresh with current issues. All resolved topics can be viewed in the respective archives to your left. Although they are sorted by month (or in some cases even less), they might not be in perfect chronological order — instead, they are archived in the order they were resolved. The discussion should be archived in the month where the bulk of the discussion took place (if 9/10 of a discussion occurred in June and another 1/10 in July, then it should be in the June archive).

The current month's archive is here.

April 2009 Roll Call

Final Fantasy IV FA status

FYI- Final Fantasy IV is in need of some maintenance or it could very easily be taken to FAR. The article falls under 4 cleanup categories, some of which have been dated for a while.

 • Articles with unsourced statements (Aug 2008)
 • Wikipedia articles with plot summary needing attention (Oct 2008)
 • Articles to be expanded (Jan 2009)
 • Articles with dead external links (Mar 2009)

At the very least, fixing the plot summary and dead links should buy it some more time, and are probably the least daunting of the list. (Guyinblack25 talk 21:51, 9 March 2009 (UTC))

Dead link now resolved. --PresN 23:04, 9 March 2009 (UTC)

Final Fantasy FAR notification

I have nominated Final Fantasy for a featured article review here. Please join the discussion on whether this article meets featured article criteria. Articles are typically reviewed for two weeks. If substantial concerns are not addressed during the review period, the article will be moved to the Featured Article Removal Candidates list for a further period, where editors may declare "Keep" or "Remove" the article's featured status. The instructions for the review process are here. -- AnmaFinotera (talk · contribs) 06:44, 12 March 2009 (UTC)

Merger discussion

 • Nothing happens. VG and FF remain as-is.
 • FF merges with VG and becomes the Final Fantasy taskforce.
 • FF and SE merge with VG and become the Final Fantasy taskforce.
 • FF and SE merge with VG and become the Square Enix taskforce. This would be the best option, in my opinion—it would create an ideal taskforce, one with a large scope and hopefully many active members.

Thoughts? — Levi van Tine (tc) 07:37, 13 March 2009 (UTC)

If you are already subscribed to Article Alerts, it is now easier to report bugs and request new features. We are also in the process of implementing a "news system", which would let projects know about ongoing discussions on a wikipedia-wide level, and other things of interest. The developers also note that some subscribing WikiProjects and Taskforces use the display=none parameter, but forget to give a link to their alert page. Your alert page should be located at "Wikipedia:PROJECT-OR-TASKFORCE-HOMEPAGE/Article alerts". Questions and feedback should be left at Wikipedia talk:Article alerts.

Message sent by User:Addbot to all active wiki projects per request, Comments on the message and bot are welcome here.

Final Fantasy (video game) attains Good Article status!

And with that GA, we're now up to 50 GAs, FAs, and FLs! --PresN 17:08, 19 March 2009 (UTC)

Virtual Console/WiiWare

This bit of news is probably relevant to several of this project's articles. – Cyrus XIII (talk) 01:37, 26 March 2009 (UTC)

Discography of the Chocobo series GAN

Discography of the Chocobo series is now at GAN. It is the last "discography of" article to go for that status, and when it passes, will leave only Music of Final Fantasy remaining to complete the full FF Music GoodTopic. --PresN 22:39, 30 March 2009 (UTC)

Wow! You've done some great work with those articles! Would Discographies be the first Good Topic for this project? I'm unaware if there is more. WhiteArcticWolf (talk) 00:58, 31 March 2009 (UTC)
No, FF8 is an FT (it's in trouble though) and FF12 is a GT, though my DoFF12 is in that last one. (I didn't do DoFF8, it's the only one to precede me.) --PresN 05:55, 31 March 2009 (UTC)
Looks like FF8's FT is out of trouble for the time being; Rinoa was merged. — Deckiller 02:15, 4 April 2009 (UTC)

Request for assistance at Gameplay of Final Fantasy

If anyone finds something talking about the music over the course of the series, pass it on as well- I'm finally working on Music of Final Fantasy, and I'd like more stuff to use to talk about the series as a whole, rather than just individual games. --PresN 01:48, 8 April 2009 (UTC)
I don't recall if there was anything specific to the Final Fantasy series, but Nobuo Uematsu was interviewed in Nintendo Power a few issues ago. —Ost (talk) 15:53, 8 April 2009 (UTC)

The whole...constellation of "extra" Final Fantasy articles seems to have changed in the past week, let me see if I have this right:

Common elements of Final Fantasy was renamed to Character design of Final Fantasy, and everything in it that didn't fit was merged to Gameplay of Final Fantasy, which had originally split off from Common Elements back in November. Then, Recurring character names of Final Fantasy and Monsters of Final Fantasy were merged to Character design of Final Fantasy; leaving as the only side articles "Gameplay", "Character Design", "Character Classes", "Minigames", and "Music"- the ones that are listed at the bottom of the Final Fantasy series template. That all correct? --PresN 20:00, 13 April 2009 (UTC)

 • Sounds about right. The common elemets had become a potpouri. Over the course of a few months, we pulled a few parts out. Now the plot stuff is in the main final fantasy series article. The recurring character names and moogles and chocobos ended up in an article about characters. And everything else is in gameplay. I find that when articles have clearer scope, they tend to attract less original research. Randomran (talk) 20:06, 13 April 2009 (UTC)

Crystal Defenders in our jurisdiction?

We should decide. :) Judgesurreal777 (talk) 19:22, 4 April 2009 (UTC)

It's definitely FF - as it prominently uses elements of the Tactics Advance / A2 series, right down to the Job costumes for each of the races. If that's not convincing enough, consider it being under Square Enix's Final Fantasy Mobile brand. — Blue 12:15, 5 April 2009 (UTC)
