William N. Johnston

William N. Johnston became the 16th president of Wesley College (Delaware) in June 2008. Previous to this post Johnston served as the 27th president of Iowa Wesleyan College for six years.

Johnston has held leadership and management positions at four church-related, private, liberal arts colleges. Before coming to Iowa Wesleyan, Dr. Johnston served as vice president for institutional advancement at Bethany College in Bethany, West Virginia. Prior to serving at Bethany College, he worked as executive director for development and as vice president for development at Davis & Elkins College in West Virginia. Johnston also served as associate dean of students and director of conferences at West Virginia Wesleyan College, later serving as assistant vice president for development and assistant director of admissions, as well as associate vice president for enrollment management. During his time at Ashland University in Ohio, he was assistant coordinator of campus life, director of campus activities, career development.

Dr. Johnston earned a bachelor of arts degree in psychology from Westminster College in 1972, a master of arts degree in college student personnel from Bowling Green State University in 1973, and a doctor of education degree in higher education from West Virginia University in 1986. He also studied at Harvard University in 1999 at the Institute for Educational Management (IEM).
