separate portal
[edit]This should be its own portal about the metropolitan areas in SoCal. I will move it to be its own portal if no one disagrees by 12-17-09. House1090 (talk) 02:02, 14 December 2009 (UTC)
Vandalism and Edit warring
[edit]Yet another user unwilling to talk it out, its horrible to see what wikipedia is becoming, a place to vandalize. I rearranged the metros to show largest to smallest, it only makes sence. Also Orange County is not a metro its in the LA MSA, user SoCalLA keeps on revertiong me without stating why, or references. I just reverted him for the last time as it was my second, I am not going further with this. If he does not state reasons or references I will take him to AN, I dont want problems, I am trying to settle them. If some one agrees with him or if he can state why he is reverting me I am willing to listen and move on. House1090 (talk) 04:52, 15 December 2009 (UTC)
Main picture
[edit]It was suggested at WT:CAL#Portals of Los Angeles and San Diego that a template akin to {{California portal}}
be created for this portal. Now obviously with the focus on the metropolitan area, the seal of the city of LA is not appropriate. Any suggestions on what image, if any, we should use? --TorriTorri(Talk to me!) 07:01, 8 April 2010 (UTC)
- Several images come to mind for the Greater LA area. The SoCal portal is already using the Hollywood sign. Palm trees or a beach, perhaps? Butros (talk) 11:56, 8 April 2010 (UTC)
- I like the ideas of palm trees or beaches because those are representative of both counties. How about an orange, representing the Los Angeles nickname of the Big Orange? Alanraywiki (talk) 16:10, 8 April 2010 (UTC)
- I added an image of a beach to the portal tag (both Los Angeles and Greater Los Angeles) just to try it out. Both counties are well-known for their beaches. No problem if someone wants to revert. Alanraywiki (talk) 01:12, 21 July 2010 (UTC)

Portal
[edit]Note that {{California portal}}
has now been replaced by {{portal|California}}

Questionable statement about the film industry
[edit]This article contains the sentence "Hollywood leads the world in the creation of motion pictures". This statement seems ambiguous at best, and under some interpretations might be false. Although Hollywood generates the most revenue for its motion picture output ($11B in 2010, well ahead of Japan and India), it does not lead the world in either the total number of films produced (India), or the aggregate number of tickets sold (India again, followed by China.) (reference article). Manning (talk) 21:35, 7 March 2011 (UTC)
update
[edit]I updated the intro article to reflect the current article on the greater area. it just needs to be updated as the actual article changes. no rewrite necessary. i also updated the DYK to show actual articles, not unsourced factoids. i mostly edit the SFBA portal, but whats the point of having a competition with the LA portal if its not up to snuff? id like to see both be high class. this has potential, if people can get behind adding more info.Mercurywoodrose (talk) 06:13, 20 June 2014 (UTC)

Ok, what's the deal?
[edit]Is this portal replacing the Los Angeles portal? Otherwise, what's the idea of replacing the templates in articles for places actually within Los Angeles itself? Please enlighten me... --jnkyrdsprkl (talk) 20:02, 22 June 2014 (UTC)
- Ah, just saw the explanation in the new edit summary, nevermind. (Might be good to include the explanation in the initial edit, though, to save confusion.) --jnkyrdsprkl (talk) 20:05, 22 June 2014 (UTC)
