The result of the discussion was retarget to Evolution of cetaceans. There was no participation despite a relist, hence no opposition to the nomination's retarget proposal. If there is a differing opinion later, this may be taken up at RfD again. Jay 💬 09:17, 3 November 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Not mentioned at target. The term represents an outdated hypothesis about the ancestors of cetaceans. The term isn't mentioned at evolution of cetaceans either, although the theory of mesonychian ancestry is discussed there. The term does appear in the cladogram at Artiodactyl#Historical classification of Cetacea, but the evolution of cetaceans article would be a more relevant target. Not mentioned at target or anywhere on the internet. As far as I can determine, mesonychians have never been considered to be artiodactyls (or ancestral to them); there has been debate about whether mesonychians or artiodactyls are ancestral to whales (there's consensus now that whales descended from artiodactyls). Assuming that this is a term that exists anywhere outside of Wikipedia, the appropriate target for a redirect would be artiodactyl#Evolutionary history or ungulate (the next broader group including artiodactyls for which there is an article) Plantdrew (talk) 21:36, 19 October 2023 (UTC)[reply]

  • Keep - A search on wikipedia provides no other hits for this term, a search on Google shows this appears to be an accurate definition. A reference for the term should be cited and added to the target page rather than weeding a viable redirect that may be helpful. - Darker Dreams (talk) 02:53, 11 October 2023 (UTC)[reply]
  • Delete as long as there is no mention at the target, as this term is not referred to anywhere on Wikipedia, nor is there a definition which is ever alluded to. Utopes (talk / cont) 21:39, 11 October 2023 (UTC)[reply]

  • Keep tag {{R from synonym}} and {{R without mention}} -- we have the topic of this subject as an article, so we literally have the information a person looking for this term is searching for. Deletion for not being listed, would mean that we have to turn Wikipedia into a dictionary, with large footers to list every synonym that a redirect could come as. -- 65.92.244.127 (talk) 09:17, 17 October 2023 (UTC)[reply]

  • Delete unless mentioned with reliable sources clarifying the relationship. I tried finding some myself so I could add this term to the target and vote "keep", but I failed. As someone who's neither a calligraphy expert nor a native Japanese speaker, from the Google hits it's not clear to me at all whether kuzushiji is synonymous with sōsho, or a subset of it, or a superset, or a partially disjoint set:
    • The only thing I can find in English that's directly on point is a an unpublished paper (by someone whose main expertise seems to be computer science rather than Japanese, and hence probably not a WP:EXPERTSPS) which suggests it's a superset: From there canonical form, characters are often 'destroyed' through shortcuts, linking and rounding, also known as kuzushiji (崩し字). In its extreme form it leads to the sousho style. [1]
    • Among Japanese Google hits, there's a bunch of arguments on Yahoo! Answers about whether or not kuzushiji and sōsho mean the same thing, and then there's this National Institute of Japanese Literature page about kuzushiji which doesn't mention the word sōsho at all, and gives as its example image a woodblock print of a children's song where most of the hiragana are in standard print form but two of them are kuzushiji.
    • The introduction of Kōta Kodama [ja]'s kuzushiji dictionary (ISBN 9784490103335, the only one I can see without having to get off my ass and walk to a library) doesn't mention the word sōsho at all either.
In short, the best I can conclude is that this is a complicated topic area where specialists are picky about their terminology. In that case, a {{R without mention}} is a bad idea. 59.149.117.119 (talk) 10:49, 27 October 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Previous RfDs for this redirect and similar redirects:

All these character are primarily known for being characters in League, not for their virtual work in K/DA. I'd also argue these redirects are a stretch tenous and certainly surprising - no such redirect needs to exist, unless we make a "Characters in League of Legends" page of some sort (which I don't think is necessary). The result of the discussion was delete. Hey man im josh (talk) 15:00, 3 November 2023 (UTC)[reply]

At the dab page, there is nobody else named Ken Marschall, so this title only refers to one individual.

This redirect was made by User:Ollieisanerd with the good intention of creating it for the hatnote at the top of the Ken Marschall page. However, the previous hatnote which pointed to Kenneth Marshall (disambiguation) directly seemed to be perfectly sufficient and more accurate to the situation, as it had a list of other people named "Kenneth Marshall" (with 4 possibilities), and NOT a list of other people named "Ken Marschall" (with 0 possibilities). Noticably, Ken Marschall is not listed as an entry at the target disambiguation page, but only exists in the "See Also" section. This seems to be because there is no need to disambiguate Marschall's entry from the rest (as it is a distinctive, separate name). Utopes (talk / cont) 05:36, 3 October 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Nonexistent word invented [probably not, see replies below] by sockpuppeteer User:AugustusAudax at AFC: Wikipedia:Articles for creation/Redirects and categories/2023-03#Redirect request: Slaewaz; source given at AFC makes no mention of the word. [Changed after reply from User:Eejit43; present in source as "slæwaz" (note the æ)]. The user's Draft:Slaewaz was deleted in September 2023 for being abandoned. Google turns up zero results for this. Potential misspelling of the reconstructed term *slaiwaz in Proto-Germanic, whose potential meanings include "slow" and "dimwitted". ArcticSeeress (talk) 03:46, 7 October 2023 (UTC)[reply]

No comment on the validity of the redirect, but the source given at AFC does say:

(sloh liv-ing: Proto-Germanic *slæwaz) is a lifestyle which encourages a slower approach to aspects of everyday life, involving completing tasks at a leisurely pace."

. ~ Eejit43 (talk) 03:58, 7 October 2023 (UTC)[reply]
I see now that it is present as spelled with "æ", not "ae". I rectified the original comment. ArcticSeeress (talk) 04:06, 7 October 2023 (UTC)[reply]
After looking into the page history, the source copied this text from an old revision of the article. See this edit. ArcticSeeress (talk) 04:15, 7 October 2023 (UTC)[reply]
Seems to be, yes. Looks like slæwaz is indeed a Proto-Germanic term that "slow" seems to have been derived from. I see you changed it, but it was definitely not invented as a sockpuppet, and Google does turn up quite a few results it. ~ Eejit43 (talk) 14:25, 7 October 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Big blue blob seems to refer to France in the game Europa Universalis IV, but outside of EU4, I don't see France ever being referred to by these terms. Retargeting to Europa Universalis IV would probably be better, but even then, there's no content relating to the redirects there (or in France, for that matter). Add in the fact that there are other possible uses for the terms ([4] is sourced in Pacific Cup (yacht race), referring to a body of water), and I don't think these redirects are worth keeping. The result of the discussion was disambiguate. Indian Empire (disambiguation) has been created and will be moved to the target shortly. Hey man im josh (talk) 15:03, 3 November 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Retarget to List of Indian empires or disambiguate. No evidence for primary topic. Google searches show that the term is used for the Mughal and Mauryan empires very frequently and top twenty hits also include restaurants and takeaways as frequently as British India. DrKay (talk) 13:14, 2 October 2023 (UTC)[reply]

  • Delete: This has been subject to a number of edit wars and there seems to me to be essentially no great target for this. I think that disambiguating would be rather difficult as people think of very unrelated things, and what to and not include at the DAB page could prove odd. If there's a good DAB draft, I would support that. I think that the recommendation by the nom isn't a bad idea, but seeing the edit wars and the number of people that in the past supported a variety of different targets, I rarely like leaving things to wikipedia's search functionality, but it actually seems like this would be a good scenario for this. As a question, should we bundle Indian empire or does WP:DIFFCAPS make it not relevant. I do feel uncomfortable with deletion given the number of pageviews, but my reasons expressed above make me thing it's oddly the best choice. TartarTorte 15:40, 2 October 2023 (UTC)[reply]
  • Retarget per nom. This is clearly something people are looking for and should not be a redlink as that will be significantly less useful to readers (who may be multiple clicks/taps away from search results, depending on multiple factors). If someone wants to draft a disambiguation page or set index then please ping me and I'll happily review my preference but in the absence of such I prefer retargetting. Thryduulf (talk) 10:56, 3 October 2023 (UTC)[reply]
  • Turn into a disambig or delete. The nom's proposed target is itself a redirect to List of Indian monarchs, which includes loads of regimes that no one would call an "Indian empire" (eg. Kingdom of Kochin Furius (talk) 18:01, 7 October 2023 (UTC)[reply]

  • Keep. "British Raj" is rare in the print resources I'm familiar with — I suspect it's far more common in Indian-published sources than elsewhere — and when these sources don't use "British India", the most common way to refer to it is easily "Indian Empire" or "Empire of India". Nyttend (talk) 05:42, 11 October 2023 (UTC)[reply]
  • Disambig "lots of very different things referred to with the same/similar name," especially when "primary topic" is extremely contentious, is what disambigs are for. - Darker Dreams (talk) 07:17, 12 October 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Disambiguate There's enough assumed common language difference between Indian Empire vs. Empire of India in my opinion. British Raj being more common in Indian-published sources is a nonargument, since we don't give more weight to sources based on country of origin or variant of English (MOS:ENGVAR). However, it is true that the phrase "Indian Empire" is used in the most common WP:RS to refer to the British Raj. Therefore, disambiguating makes sense to me, especially for a redirect. Search results also pull up mostly irrelevant results; I'm seeing a couple referring to Kompang, and at least one referring to Kampung. Probably best if this is deleted, as there's no good target. This appears to be a reference from Extra Credits, but it's not mentioned here, at Extra Credits or at q:Extra Credits. Seeing nowhere to target it to, this should be deleted. If a sourced mention is added to any of those, retargetting there should be fine. TartarTorte 00:33, 26 October 2023 (UTC)[reply]
