From memory (for what that's worth):

  • The tower used to have a brick facade, replaced in 1989.
  • During the replacement, a large portion of the facade fell from the building, causing damage but no casualties.
  • The old facade was found to contain a toxic adhesive (also found in souvenir pieces of the Berlin Wall, which was being dismantled around the same time)
  • When the renovations weren't completed by the start of the next academic year, some residents were relocated to local hotels, such as the Driskill.
  • Some academic departments had offices (if not classrooms?) in the Dobie Center, presumably due to lack of space at the University.

I agree - I don't think the sexual assault should be mentioned per WP:NOT#NEWS and WP:UNDUE. Wikipedia is not a compendium of every building in which a sexual assault has ever taken place in. That the article on the UT Tower does not mention sexual assaults does not mean they have not taken place there, that the article on the Texas State Capitol does not mention sexual assaults does not mean they have not taken place there, and that this article on Dobie Center does not mention sexual assaults does not mean they have not taken place there. And if anyone feels particularly motivated to discuss it, here's an idea: see how many instances of sexual assault have been reported at Dobie Center since it was built and compare the resultant percentage to the percentage for Austin for the same period. Maybe compare it to other Austin venues, as well, and then write a letter to the editor of the Austin American Statesman about it. The resulting press that that receives may warrant an addition to the article. As yet, however, no such addition is justified 129.116.66.226 (talk) 16:43, 3 July 2009 (UTC) —Preceding unsigned comment added by 70.116.12.67 (talk) [reply]
  • Chip - i have every reason to believe i know who it was but they deny that it was them - not sure if I'll ever figure it out completely but this person should not do this again. Obviously there is a lot of stuff that happens at all of our properties -- I am not sure why they chose to bring up news from a half decade ago but I'll do whatever I can to make sure it won't happen again. —Preceding unsigned comment added by Ben123321q (talkcontribs) 23:50, 6 July 2009 (UTC)[reply]
