Vague language supporting misleading claims of casualties

[edit]

The sentence "After Palestinian militant groups led by Hamas launched an attack on Israel on 7 October 2023 which saw a minimum of 1,139 largely non-combatant individuals killed" suggests 1139 persons were killed by Palestian militants. In reality part of that number was casualties from "friendly" fire, on base of the Hannibal Directive. VanderlekD (talk) 00:23, 28 September 2024 (UTC)[reply]

I agree that adding something about the friendly fire/Hannibal Directive should be implemented. However it has to be stated that the exact number of people killed by the directive/FF is unknown and likely will not be known, unless the coroners get more freedom to publish information.
I was also going to suggest adding on something in regards to the larger specifics (military vs civilian), but since it is one sentence in the Background section, it is likely not needed. Propork3455 (talk) 21:39, 29 September 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Some of the Palestinian casualties were also due to friendly fire, for example the Al-Ahli hospital explosion, (according to some) and many smaller instances of malfunctioning rockets. We still count them in the total of Palestinian casualties. Per WP:NPOV we shouldn't overemphasise this just for one side of the conflict. Alaexis¿question? 09:44, 30 September 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Ahli Arab hospital being "Friendly Fire" is an Israeli claim, which they made after Admitting that they did it and then taking down these posts in order to be able to say it was Hamas Friendly Fire, a claim which has been debunked by independent analysts. 2600:1700:F720:5EA0:94DA:DD0B:140:A141 (talk) 21:21, 25 October 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Nowhere is it stated that the Gaza Ministry of Health does not distinguish between militants and civilians when counting the dead. Also, the fact the UN has not independently verified any numbers from Gaza means they are not reliable as of now. The UN does not recognize the count and states this on their website. “Casualties in the context of the ongoing hostilities in the Gaza Strip and Israel, which started on 7 October 2023, will only be added to this page once these incidents have been independently verified. Until then, reported figures on those are included in our Flash Updates and Snapshots. By contrast, data on casualties in the West Bank and Israel in other contexts is updated regularly beyond 7 October 2023.” 1

EDIT REQUEST: Update the number of goals of the military campaign

[edit]

Current incomplete wording:

Israel's campaign, called Operation Swords of Iron, has two stated goals: to destroy Hamas and to free the hostages.

Suggested new wording:

Israel's campaign, called Operation Swords of Iron, has three stated goals relating to Gaza: to destroy Hamas, to free the hostages, and to ensure that Gaza can no longer pose a threat to Israel. A fourth stated goal aims to safely return residents of the north to their homes amid near-daily rocket and drone attacks from Hezbollah since October 8, 2023.

Rationale:

Spokespeople within Israel since the early days of the war have mentioned THREE stated goals:

1. Destroy Hamas military and governing capabilities

2. Free the hostages

3. Ensure that Gaza does not pose a threat to Israel and the civilized world in the future.

(the last is worded differently in different sources, e.g. https://www.jpost.com/israel-hamas-war/article-800280)

Recently, a fourth goal has been added:

4. The safe return of the residents of the north to their homes

(e.g. https://www.timesofisrael.com/return-of-displaced-northern-residents-to-their-homes-becomes-an-official-war-goal/)

I don't have enough edits to change this myself. Currently the entry is not complete and needs to be updated.

Sorry, I see that some of the edit requests look more official, and I'm sure there's a button somewhere that I'm missing to make this an official one, but I've tried to make it as clear as possible.

Thanks! Tzivia494 (talk) 08:25, 7 October 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Start of invasion

[edit]

The article states that Ground Troops entered Gazs on October 27h, yet in the Info Box it says October 7th. Plese be coherent. The "Invasion" started NOT on October 7th 185.40.63.174 (talk) 08:42, 8 October 2024 (UTC)[reply]

HAMULA

[edit]

'An official in the Gaza Strip told N12 that "Hamas activists also directly take part of the humanitarian aid that goes to Khan Yunis and the humanitarian area in Mawasi. They get there, take the aid and distribute it to whoever they want, or sometimes sell it and with this money they pay the activists In their ranks. In fact, Hamas is taking the food from the mouths of the residents.' https://www.mako.co.il/news-military/036814c74a0e1910/Article-230432925fe8291026.htm?sCh=31750a2610f26110&pId=173113802

The duration of the invasion is wrong

[edit]

According to the duration provided in the infobox (1 year, 1 month and 2 days as of 24.11.09), invasion of Gaza started on October 7th, while at the same time it clearly states that it begun on October 27th, which seems to be the true date. Gorgedweller (talk) 10:28, 9 November 2024 (UTC)[reply]
