Mobile view v. Mobile app

[edit]

Thank you everyone for creating/editing this template. It would be much appreciated if someone could differentiate between the mobile browser view and the Wikipedia official app by adding an attribute. I recently found some templates do not function on the app - for example, {{bar chart}}, {{align}} etc. If the app attribute would be introduced, I am more than happy to translate and promote this display template to Japanese Wikipedians. --Mis0s0up (talk) 01:29, 27 December 2017 (UTC)[reply]

I am a translator for the Japanese version of this template.
This template is intended to intentionally selectively display for mobile view or desktop view using nomobile class (implemented) and nodesktop class (not yet). On the other hand, what happens in desktop view, mobile view, or application due to other things is simply that it does not correspond or is a bug. You had better create another template.
e.g. "Confirmation of operation" template. Include: "When", "What" did not work.
Or just use Template:Notice--タバコはマーダー (talk) 05:14, 27 December 2017 (UTC)[reply]
Idea: Thank you タバコはマーダー for the additional information. I am a but confused though... I tested the three attributes - adaptive; nomobile; and nodesktop - and all three fully function on my laptop sandbox. Therefore, I still see the beta version of this template useful and am reluctant to switch to {{Notice}}. My initial request is adding the forth attribute to distinguish between mobile view and mobile app as well as minor-changing the current attributes.
1. Adaptive templates (attribute = adaptive)
  • Current: This template is adaptive and displays differently in mobile and desktop view. Read the documentation for an explanation of the differences and why they exist.
  • New idea: This template is adaptive and displays differently in desktop view, mobile view and mobile app apps. Read the documentation for an explanation of the differences and why they exist. For more information, see WP:MOBILE and the talk page.
2. Desktop only templates (attribute = nomobile)
  • Current: This template does not display in the mobile view of Wikipedia; it is desktop only. Read the documentation for an explanation.
  • New idea: This template does not display in mobile view and mobile app some mobile apps; it is desktop only. Read the documentation for an explanation.'For more information, see WP:MOBILE and the talk page.
3. No desktop templates (attribute = nodesktop)
  • Current: This template does not display in the desktop view of Wikipedia; it is mobile view only. Read the documentation for an explanation.

Currently, less than 20 templates are using this display alart. Some of them will be affected by the abovementioned revision, but changing from the second to the new forth attribute won't be a big problem. CFCF, waiting for your thoughts. Thank you, --Mis0s0up (talk) 06:58, 27 December 2017 (UTC)[reply]
This template switches whether or not to display the code on the template itself. inform about it. The display changes due to the template itself.
The problem you say is occurring in Mediawiki or application developers. Templates do not cause change in display.
Furthermore, multiple applications are created and it is not known when the specification of display is changed.
So these are mixed. --タバコはマーダー (talk) 02:48, 28 December 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Comment: Thank you タバコはマーダー for the additional input. I believe that the primary purpose of {{Template display}} is to get ordinary page editors aware that some templates display in different ways on different devices. Once page editors noticed, they would carefully test and preview a template on multiple platforms before publishing a page. タバコはマーダー's point, on the other hand, is how to encourage Mediawiki editors and mobile application developers (i.e. not ordinary Wikipedia page editors) to modify display codes by taking into account device compatibility. It is out of scope of this {{Template display}}, and must be escalated to the entire Wikipedia technical issue problem team. Considering タバコはマーダー's argument, however, I hereby amended the aforementioned alert messages - Changing from "mobile app" (single) to "the Wikipedia official mobile apps" (plural and added official). Wikipedia official apps are for iOS, Android and Windows whereas several third-party application developers have also released unofficial Wikipedia apps, according to WP:MOBILE#Applications. Hope this amendment works more accurately.--Mis0s0up (talk) 07:19, 7 January 2018 (UTC)[reply]

I do not know what order you are referring to this template's purpose.
With this template, intend to implement with CSS class. It is named in relation to : _and_<mobileonly>_tags" class="extiw" title="mw:Extension:MobileDetect">mw:Extension:MobileDetect#<nomobile> and <mobileonly> tags. It has been implemented as CSS: mw:Topic:T0hpya65gaj8i9qo, mw:Topic:Tx726dj8htz363u0, mw:Mobile Gateway/Mobile homepage formatting
Idea of the "noapp" is currently out of order. The user interface is unified : mw:Wikimedia User Interface. Reservation of naming definitions in programming will be confusing. You had better avoid it. --タバコはマーダー (talk) 10:54, 7 January 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Only mobile (?)

[edit]

Good morning. Is there a class to show an element to mobile devices only, avoiding it from appearing in the desktop version? Thanks in advance for your reply --Fierodelveneto (talk) 11:19, 19 April 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Fierodelveneto, not many people watch these template talk pages. Ask at the Village pump (technical). BlackcurrantTea (talk) 04:00, 26 April 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Izno, what was the reason for this removal? Thanks, Mathglot (talk) 00:44, 28 September 2022 (UTC)[reply]
