baronage of scotland

[edit]

Hi there - you keep adding middle names to the page, please note there is very little room due to the size of the page, therefore as a uniform standard all middle names have been removed. Please kindly do not add back again or I will need to add an official warning / block to your page. Kellycrak88 (talk) 08:08, 12 August 2024 (UTC)[reply]

you're welcome to add middle names on the dedicated baron's page, not the list Kellycrak88 (talk) 08:10, 12 August 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Note that despite his above message, Kellycrak doesn't have the rights here to place an "official" warning or to block you. Everyone can place warnings, they are either warranted or not, but they aren't "official". And only admins can block you. Please don't be intimidated by messages like the above one, but use the article talk page to see if you can come to an agreement, and use Wikipedia:Dispute resolution if you can't. @Fram I am not intimidating anybody
@71031h has repeatedly been adding the middle name Alexandra where there is a uniform no middle names on a page of nearly 500-600 individuals listed including heirs
As stated above and in my undo revision comment on the page @71031h there is no space on that page, you're welcome to add middle names to the dedicated page for the baron. If editors make exception for one person with a middle name, then others want a middle name, and then the page gets ultra cluttered
To reiterate if you continue adding the middle name to the page then this happens:
  1. Warning is added to your page
  2. If it continues after this, then there is a Wikipedia:Dispute resolution and/or report to administrators for blocking

No, you said "I will need to add an official warning / block to your page.". You should invite them to the article talk page to discuss this, perhaps get the input of others, be aware of WP:OWN, ... I don't really see how you do have the space for "By The Grace Of God, The Much Hon. Niall Livingston of Bachuil, Baron of the Bachuil, Coarb of St Moluag, Abbot of Lismore, Head of clan MacLea" but adding Eugen to "Roland Eugen Staehli, Baron of Marchmont" is somehow a space issue, but I presume there is a good explanation... Fram (talk) 10:08, 12 August 2024 (UTC)[reply]
I was writing quickly in short hand.
It is obviously different because Bachuil is the premier baron and is one of the oldest noble in the British Isles his blood line dating back to the 6th century hence he's only the person in the country other that the King himself to be recognised with By The Grace Of God before his name which is also in his passport. The lord lyon views him as a sovereign lord without a feudal superior as his titles existed before the formating of Kingdom of Scotland. Kellycrak88 (talk) 10:13, 12 August 2024 (UTC)[reply]
also his middle names are not used! Kellycrak88 (talk) 10:14, 12 August 2024 (UTC)[reply]
But there is space for all kinds of superfluous info in the entries, like "Capt" or "Prof" or nicknames ("Roderick "Rory" MacNeil of Barra, Baron of Barra, Chief of Clan Niall and 27th of Barra, The Macneil of Barra" has a nickname and 4 times "of Barra"), and every entry repeats the title from the first column as well. I don't know if there is a good reason to include middle names in some or all cases, perhaps not, but "lack of space" is clearly not a good reason to exclude them. In any case, this doesn't need block warnings, this needs an article talk page discussion. Fram (talk) 10:25, 12 August 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Yes, titles are included, just no middle names.
Rory is the name he is known as that's why it is there. Also he's a chief of a clan.
This is all common sense.
Even if we accepted everyone's middle name for barons, user @71031h keeps adding Alexandra a middle name to an heir, which is an even smaller field that the baron field.
If you want to make a discussion on the Talk page for what I believe is common sense then feel free. Kellycrak88 (talk) 10:36, 12 August 2024 (UTC)[reply]
