If you have any interest in editing Wikipedia by smartphone, I encourage you to read my essay, Smartphone editing. Thank you.

Welcome to my talk page I use the name Cullen328 on Wikipedia, but you can call me "Jim" because that's my real first name. If you want to start a new conversation, please click "New section" or "Add topic" at the top of this page. I keep the old comments from July and August of 2009 that follow the "Contents" here, because these friendly words of greeting made me feel welcome when I first started editing Wikipedia.

The importance of a friendly greeting

Hello and welcome to my talk page. If you want to start a new conversation, please click "New section" at the top of this page. Please offer your thoughts

I would appreciate comments and suggestions on any contributions I make. I am learning.Cullen328 (talk) 03:22, 3 July 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Nice work on Jules Eichorn. He's been needing an article for a while.   Will Beback  talk  06:28, 31 July 2009 (UTC)[reply]
If I may suggest, now that you've posted the Eichorn article the draft below might be deleted. It's your talk page to do with as you like, but it's a bit hard to edit around.
As for formatting and pictures, a good way to learn is to look around at other articles to see what you think looks best. It can be helpful to break up long blocks of text into subsections. Perhaps it'd be possible to split the biography into two or three eras. Other than that, the formatting is usually kept fairly plain. As for photos, it's easy to upload them: the trick is in finding photos with appropriate licensing. If you have any personal photos then those'd be fine. There are might be pictures of the peaks he did first ascents on in the Wikicommons. File:Cathedral Peak.png is a so-so pic of Eichorn Pinnacle.
As before, feel free to ask if you have any questions. There are several editors here who are mountaineers or just admirers of the Sierra, so you're in good company.   Will Beback  talk  21:13, 31 July 2009 (UTC)[reply]
PS: Many editors create "sandbox" pages for drafting articles. For example, User talk:Cullen328/Sandbox.   Will Beback  talk  00:17, 1 August 2009

Your climber biographies

Hey Jim, just wanted to say welcome and thanks for your contributions to the Sierra Nevada climbing history articles. You're filling a niche that's been missing here, I look forward to working with you. --Justin (talk) 11:54, 27 August 2009 (UTC)[reply]

I'll second that. Nice work on Allen Steck and welcome to Wikipedia. I don't know who you are planning to write up next but if your taking requests I think Peter Croft (climber) could really use a page. If you ever have any questions please ask. Thanks again for your great additions.--OMCV (talk) 02:25, 29 August 2009 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks Justin and OMCV. I am beginning work on Tom Frost and Glen Dawson. Comments on Norman Clyde would be welcomed. I will defintely read up on Peter Croft, OMCV. I am still "learning the ropes" in Wikipedia, to use a climbing analogy, and have all sorts of things in mind. My biggest challenge right now is getting permission to use images. My next biggest challenge is hiking to the top of Mt. Whitney with my wife in ten days - she's never been above 12,000 feet except for the train ride up Pikes Peak. As she's 56 and developing arthritis in her toes, it will be an accomplishment if she (and I) complete the Class 1 feat. Jim Heaphy (talk) 02:34, 29 August 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Request of Help on "Just the Facts" Tone

[edit]

Hi Jim,

I am very new to Wikipedia. I got your feedback on the draft article located under PhoCoHaNoi. Thanks so much for your comments. I would greatly appreciate if you would spare some valuable time to highlight those parts from the draft that I need to pay close attentions to regarding the aspect that you raised. I know it would be a long shot to ask if you would even consider providing specific examples by directly editing them on the draft.

Lastly, I still do not know on how to submit the revision for review. I do not see any obvious buttons or pull-down menus from the Sandbox setting that would be able to allow to submit the article for review.

Thank you so much.

PhoCoHaNoi

Hello, PhoCoHaNoi. I am not going to edit the draft myself, because I want this to be a learning exercise for you. Here are a few examples of unacceptable wording:
  • "celebrating the 73-year history of outstanding men and women"
  • "pioneering contributions"
  • "sustained leadership and strategic vision"
  • "Exceptional services to innovation ecosystem"
  • "stimulating small business innovation, meeting the Air Force and DoD R&D needs, broadening participation in innovation and entrepreneurship, and boosting commercialization"
  • " So, as Dr. Pham looked back now, he brought systems-theoretic science and control engineering principles, together with teamwork and interdisciplinary to bear fruition in solving warfighter engineering problems, various areas of specific focus for increased activities in space control autonomy and space domain awareness."
It is not the job of a Wikipedia editor (you) to praise a person. Every trace of this non-neutral language must be removed. A Wikipedia article should never say "Person A is great!" Instead, it should say "Reliable source C reports that Expert B says that Person A is great", along with a reference to Reliable source C.
As for how to submit your draft, I will explain that when the draft complies with the neutral point of view. Cullen328 Let's discuss it

Sending Messages to Other Editors

[edit]

Hi Jim. I will deeply appreciate anything that you can do to help. How can I find out about other editors and send them messages? I recently looked for an article about The Italian Coffee Company that I had read years ago. However, I could not find it. I believe that this article should be available. I am a new editor and I have a big learning curve ahead of me. Maybe you can post to my talk page. I am user Mojosa17. Any help will be greatly appreciated.

Hello, JarrahTree. Thanks for the information. I have indefinitely blocked the editor in question. I tried to be kind about it, because I don't think they are acting in bad faith. They just don't understand. Cullen328 (talk) 04:50, 4 October 2024 (UTC)[reply]
The genuine desire to edit constructively is obvious, but the confusing language usage is disruptive.

I would never utilise Indonesian wikipedia as a way of improving my competency in the language JarrahTree 07:40, 4 October 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Agreed, JarrahTree. I have tried to learn several languages and know many words and phrases, but never achieved working competency. There is a certain competency level that does allow someone to contribute productively without true fluency. I worked with a young editor from a Spanish speaking country over ten years ago. Although her English was weak, she was very willing to learn. I am still in touch with her off-Wikipedia and she is now very close to fully fluent. Cullen328 (talk) 08:21, 4 October 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Blocking an IPv6 editor

I saw that you blocked 2803:C600:8101:93FE:61FE:C8E2:1BE:5F0D (talk · contribs · WHOIS). The same editor appears to be vandalizing from 2803:C600:8101:93FE:5921:FE2F:369A:5710 (talk · contribs · WHOIS), so I think the block should be expanded to 2803:C600:8101:93FE:0:0:0:0/64 (talk · contribs · WHOIS) (as explained in User:TonyBallioni/Just block the /64). Administrator Elections: Call for Candidates

[edit]
Administrator Elections | Call for Candidates

The administrator elections process has officially started! Interested editors are encouraged to self-nominate or arrange to be nominated by reviewing the instructions at Wikipedia:Administrator elections/October 2024/Call for candidates.

Here is the schedule:

  • October 8–14 - Candidate sign-up (we are here)
  • October 22–24 - Discussion phase
  • October 25–31 - SecurePoll voting phase

Please note the following:

  • The requirements to run are identical to RFA—a prospective candidate must be extended confirmed.
  • Prospective candidates are advised to become familar with the community's expectations of adminstrators, which are much higher than the minimum requirement of having extended confirmed status. This includes reviewing successful and unsuccessful RFAs, reading the essay Wikipedia:Advice for RfA candidates, and possibly requesting an optional poll on their chances of passing.
  • The process will have a one week call for candidates phase, a one week pause to set up SecurePoll, a three-day period of public discussion, followed by 7 days of no public discussion and a private vote using SecurePoll.
  • The outcomes of this process are identical to making requests for adminship. There is no official difference between an administrator appointed through RFA or administrator elections.
  • Administrator elections are also a valid means of regaining adminship for de-sysopped editors.

Ask any questions about the process at the talk page. A separate user talk message will be sent to official candidates with additional information about the process.

To avoid sending too many messages, this will be the last mass message sent about administrator elections. If you are interested in the process, please make sure to watchlist the appropriate pages. A watchlist notice will be added when the discussion phase opens, and again when the voting phase opens.

Why you are showing kalki2898ad collection less then original, many source which are offical saying that Kalki cross 20 crores --Prashant00acharya (talk) 15:12, 11 October 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Prashant00acharya, I have never edited that article and know nothing about the topic. You need to provide a reference in the article to a specific reliable source. A vague mention in your edit summary is not good enough. Please read Referencing for beginners. Cullen328 (talk) 17:25, 11 October 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Potential gaming

[edit]

I'm uncertain if this is actual WP:GAMING or not, so I wanted to ask an admin. Their edits on Sexual script theory consist only of duplicating &/or moving citations/text around (August 23 - September 25, September 26 - September 30, & October 3 - October 11). The majority of their edits at Sex–gender distinction follow the same pattern (August 5 - August 12 & August 15 - August 23), as well as at Gender identity (August 28).

I was also uncertain if I should ping said user as, if I'm simply misunderstanding the situation, I'd rather not unnecessarily bother them. Thank you for your time. Butterscotch Beluga (talk) 22:27, 14 October 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Butterscotch Beluga, in this context, "gaming" usually refers to to making rapid insubstantial edits in an attempt to get the 30/500 extended confirmed permission. But this editor became extended confirmed back in July. So, their edits in August, September and October cannot be that type of gaming. It is clear that they are editing in a highly contentious topic area. I will now take a closer look at their recent edits, but I want to give you my preliminary assessment. Cullen328 (talk) 00:16, 15 October 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Thank you. I assumed that it wouldn't quite be the correct term, but was unsure how else to best describe it. Butterscotch Beluga (talk) 00:24, 15 October 2024 (UTC)[reply]

[edit]

Hi Jim. Could you take a look at the recent editing history of LesbianTiamat? In particular their comments at Talk:Jefferson Davis, their recent edit on my user page, the discussion on their talk page which followed (note they have heavily edited their own comments), and their user page. I think they may be suffering from some serious IDHT and BATTLEGROUND issues. FWIW I think they have the capacity to be a productive editor, but they don't seem to be handling disagreement very well and at this point I think any further communication from me would only throw gasoline on the fire. But I do think somebody needs to have a gentle word with them, for their own sake. It's late here and I am going to bed. Thanks in advance. -Ad Orientem (talk) 05:08, 18 October 2024 (UTC)[reply]

I am unsure what you want from me at this point. LesbianTiamat (talk) 02:06, 19 October 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Additionally, is there a prohibition on editing my own comments? Sometimes I make mistakes or have things to add. Also, my pronouns are She/Her, not they/them. LesbianTiamat (talk) 02:13, 19 October 2024 (UTC)[reply]
LesbianTiamat, you can make substantive edits to your own comments before another editor replies. Once there is a reply, you can use strike out syntax to show what you have changed. You can make minor edits, for example, to correct a misspelling or indentation at any time. I am a big advocate of the singular they but I will try to remember that you prefer she/her. [edit]

Hi Jim! Thanks for reverting the Carjacking entry. I'm not afraid of a little deletion but thought to air it publicly through the reference desk. I was surprised that such an outrageous statement, from an IP with a history of reverted edits, had survived over three years (diff) in an article that had seen maybe 50 edits. But in a world where chooks have turned to foxes, who knows? Satire starts to look like commonsense. Cheers, Doug butler (talk) 22:39, 19 October 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Administrator Elections: Discussion phase

[edit]
Administrator Elections | Discussion phase

The discussion phase of the October 2024 administrator elections is officially open. As a reminder, the schedule of the election is:

  • October 22–24 - Discussion phase
  • October 25–31 - SecurePoll voting phase
  • November 1–? - Scrutineering phase

During October 22–24, we will be in the discussion phase. The candidate subpages will open to questions and comments from everyone, in the same style as a request for adminship. You may discuss the candidates at Wikipedia:Administrator elections/October 2024/Discussion phase.

On October 25, we will start the voting phase. The candidate subpages will close again to public questions and discussion, and everyone will have a week to use the SecurePoll software to vote, which uses a secret ballot. You can see who voted, but not who they voted for. Please note that the vote tallies cannot be made public until after voting has ended and as such, it will not be possible for you to see an individual candidate's tally during the election. The suffrage requirements are different from those at RFA.

Once voting concludes, we will begin the scrutineering phase, which will last for an indeterminate amount of time, perhaps a week or two. Once everything is certified, the results will be posted on the main election page. In order to be granted adminship, a candidate must have received at least 70.0% support, calculated as Support / (Support + Oppose). As this is a vote and not a consensus, there are no bureaucrat discussions ("crat chats").

Any questions or issues can be asked on the election talk page. Thank you for your participation. Happy electing.

Invitation to participate in a research

[edit]

Hello,

The Wikimedia Foundation is conducting a survey of Wikipedians to better understand what draws administrators to contribute to Wikipedia, and what affects administrator retention. We will use this research to improve experiences for Wikipedians, and address common problems and needs. We have identified you as a good candidate for this research, and would greatly appreciate your participation in this anonymous survey.

You do not have to be an Administrator to participate.

The survey should take around 10-15 minutes to complete. You may read more about the study on its Meta page and view its privacy statement .

Please find our contact on the project Meta page if you have any questions or concerns.

Kind Regards,

WMF Research Team

requesting page protection

[edit]

Hello Jim, I hope you are doing well. Would it be okay if I asked you here to extended-confirmed protection the pages User:KiranBOT/Teahouse archival notification, and User:KiranBOT/shutoff/teabot? I recently re-activated the bot, and these two pages are kind of important. If first page is vandalised/edited in incorrect way, it would deliver incorrect messages to the new editors. and if the second page is edited by vandal/new user, it will effectively stop the bot. —usernamekiran (talk) 06:27, 24 October 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Hello, usernamekiran. I do not pre-emptively protect pages, but if there is any vandalism of either page, I will be happy to protect them as appropriate. Just reach out if that happens. Cullen328 (talk) 06:47, 24 October 2024 (UTC)[reply]
thanks, it is appreciated a lot. As these two pages won't be, and shouldn't be edited, I thought it would be okay to preemptively protect them. If the need arises, I will contact you. Thanks again —usernamekiran (talk) 07:19, 24 October 2024 (UTC)[reply]
usernamekiran, any editor is free to improve any page on Wikipedia within the bounds of policies and guidelines, including your bots. Per WP:OWN, that is not something that you should be trying to stop unless disruption occurs. Cullen328 (talk) 07:25, 24 October 2024 (UTC)[reply]
yes, I totally agree. It's just, I thought anyone who would want to edit these pages would be extended confirmed. If I wanted to stop the editing altogether, I would have requested for template or full protection —usernamekiran (talk) 07:49, 24 October 2024 (UTC)[reply]
usernamekiran, there is nothing in policy that I am aware of that justifies pre-emptive protection. If I am wrong, please let me know. Cullen328 (talk) 08:00, 24 October 2024 (UTC)[reply]
we are on the same page, I already said I agree with you in my previous message. I think there was kind of confusion? I apologise if my message(s) caused some misunderstanding/confusion. —usernamekiran (talk) 17:26, 24 October 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Question from Tdude14 (04:23, 25 October 2024)

[edit]

How do I link another article without the link showing --Tdude14 (talk) 04:23, 25 October 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Tdude14, please explain why would you want to do that? The concept of a wikilink is that it is visible for readers to click if they want to learn more about the topic. See Hyperlink for the history of the concept that goes all the way back to the mid 1960s. Cullen328 (talk) 07:49, 25 October 2024 (UTC)[reply]

New vs old aphorisms

Just wanted 2 say i love Det.Kendas Hunter Show. Too bad it was cancelled but i know that the powers that be- schedualling shows are asses & dont know what people like Love the show, intellegence & Det. Kendas' voice & the way he thinks! Please pass on to stations & Joe! --Lydiackley (talk) 03:17, 29 October 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Lydiackley, I literally have no idea what you expect from me. Try asking a question. I have no connection to or influence over the people who decide which TV shows get canceled. I had never heard of Homicide Hunter until you mentioned it. Cullen328 (talk) 03:44, 29 October 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Yeah? Everyone knows you were personally responsible for canceling Nixon: The Musical. SerialNumber54129 17:54, 30 October 2024 (UTC) [reply]

Page protection request

[edit]

Hi Admin, good day. I'm writing this letter to request protection for the page on Nawat Itsaragrisil, as it has been targeted by vandals who are repeatedly making disruptive edits. To provide some context, this figure has recently become a controversial topic, especially following the Miss Grand International 2024 event. Some individuals from Myanmar have accused the pageant of being unfair, and, as the owner and President of Miss Grand International, Mr. Itsaragrisil has been a focal point of their frustrations. Unfortunately, I am unable to undo the recent unconstructive edits, as I do not have the necessary permissions. Thank you for your assistance. 🌼𝓡𝓬 𝓡𝓪𝓶𝔃🍁 (talk) 14:54, 31 October 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Hello, Rc ramz. I reverted the most recent vandalism, blocked a vandal account, and semi-protected the article for three months. Thanks for your report and please let me know if you see any further problems with the article. Cullen328 (talk) 16:48, 31 October 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Hello, thank you very much for your quick response and for taking action to protect the article. I appreciate your efforts in handling the vandalism and setting up semi-protection for the next three months. I’ll keep an eye on the article and let you know if I notice any further issues. Thanks again for your support and assistance. 🌼𝓡𝓬 𝓡𝓪𝓶𝔃🍁 (talk) 19:59, 31 October 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Protection of Dave Plummer?

[edit]

Hi Cullen328, can I ask you why you protected Dave Plummer again? There has been exactly one edit since the previous protection lapsed and it doesn't seem to have been a problem. Counterfeit Purses (talk) 19:51, 3 November 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Hello, Counterfeit Purses, a long term abuser has been inserting violations of WP:BLP policy into that article for years, namely calling him a criminal even though he has never been convicted of a crime. Shortly after the last semi-protection expired, contentious editing resumed although it has not yet risen to the level of calling him a criminal. The unreferenced assertion that a business he owned was selling scareware is not appropriate. There is a post at WP:BLPN#Dave Plummer Troll Yet Again that includes links to extensive past discussions of the problems with this article, and I believe that continuing the semi-protection is justified in this case. Cullen328 (talk) 20:16, 3 November 2024 (UTC)[reply]
The only reason I have this article on my watchlist is because I participated in this ANI discussion earlier this year. The whole "Dave Plummer troll" theory seems to be quite overblown. As for the use of the word "scareware", please see Scareware#Legal action. Softwareonline was the name of Dave Plummer's company. I have no idea if Guy Macon Alternate Account has some personal interest in this, but their efforts to manage Plummer's reputation are disrupting normal editing of that article. Counterfeit Purses (talk) 22:00, 3 November 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Counterfeit Purses, I think that your accusatuon that Guy Macon, a highly experienced editor of long duration, is engaged in reputation management is incorrect and unfair. I believe that he is standing up for our essential policy on biographies of living people, which is an obligation of every editor. I have not always agreed with that editor but I do agree with regards to Plummer. We simply cannot allow the fact that Plummer settled a civil lawsuit be used to justify repeated attempts to call him a criminal on Wikipedia, or to slime him 18 years later. The civil lawsuit and settlement is already described in the article. And per WP:CIRCULAR, we simply cannot use the fact that Plummer's company is mentioned in scareware to add that term to his biography without a reference to a reliable source that uses that term. I do not use monikers like "Dave Plummer troll" but I have no doubt whatsoever that there is one highly motivated individual with a longstanding grudge against Plummer who cares nothing about Wikipedia's BLP policy, and who has tried and will try to make Plummer look as bad as possible. Semi-protection is not an onerous burden since anyone except blocked or banned editors can register an account, make ten or more productive edits over four days, and then edit the article. You can edit the article. In the mean time, any new editor is free to make well-referenced, policy compliant edit requests at Talk: Dave Plummer. So, I believe that my decision to continue the semi-protection is well within my discretion as an administrator. If you disagree, then please feel free to make a request to remove the semi-protection at WP:RFPP. Cullen328 (talk) 23:58, 3 November 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Request page issue

[edit]

Hi Admin, This is urgent. The newly created article titled The Miss Globe is a copy of Miss Globe International, which is my revised version of the main article. I arranged the winners' list and other details, and now Mrcarillo has copied my version to create a new, separate page. As you can see, all the information in his creation is identical to the original article, which doesn't make sense. This is concerning, as it goes against Wikipedia's standards. This page should be deleted, not just merged, since it's a direct copy of the original, with all content duplicated from top to bottom. Thank you. 🌼𝓡𝓬 𝓡𝓪𝓶𝔃🍁 (talk) 01:32, 4 November 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Hello, Rc ramz. The two versions are not identical. One has two paragraphs and one chart, and the other has seven paragraphs and three charts. Please discuss this matter with Mrcarillo first. I want to hear both sides of the story. Cullen328 (talk) 02:00, 4 November 2024 (UTC)[reply]
But all of the content he used was simply copied from my original research, from the lead article to the references, including my phrasing in the titleholders' definitions. This was my edit, and the article should not be separated. Miss Globe International was originally one pageant before it split, with one version eventually dissolving while The Miss Globe pageant continued. Since The Miss Globe is the pageant that continued and owns the entirety of the brand, the article should remain with it as well. 🌼𝓡𝓬 𝓡𝓪𝓶𝔃🍁 (talk) 02:33, 4 November 2024 (UTC)[reply]
I’m also the one who arranged the titleholders, winners, and tables. Just look at the edit summary in the main article—it’s my work and research. Every word in the new article was simply copied from my original content. 🌼𝓡𝓬 𝓡𝓪𝓶𝔃🍁 (talk) 02:41, 4 November 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Rc ramz, original research is forbidden by policy. Did you mean something else? Also, no editor owns the content we write on Wikipedia and it can be re-used by anyone. This seems to be a disagreement about a splitting. Please begin by discussing it with the other editor. Cullen328 (talk) 02:46, 4 November 2024 (UTC)[reply]
this was a Copy-paste article creation 🌼𝓡𝓬 𝓡𝓪𝓶𝔃🍁 (talk) 02:48, 4 November 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Rc ramz, then the editor needs to be informed about how to properly attribute copied and pasted content. Please do so helpfully. Cullen328 (talk) 02:53, 4 November 2024 (UTC)[reply]
The page was part of the primary article, and there is no need to create a new one since it doesn’t cover a broad scope. The history should remain in a single article. 🌼𝓡𝓬 𝓡𝓪𝓶𝔃🍁 (talk) 02:54, 4 November 2024 (UTC)[reply]
That is your opinion and your assessment of the situation. I have asked you to discuss the matter in a friendly and helpful fashion with the other editor. This is Wikipedia 101. Please have that conversation before returning to my talk page. I want to hear both sides of the story. I have little patience for squabbling about beauty pageants. Cullen328 (talk) 03:06, 4 November 2024 (UTC)[reply]
I have already informed him and discussed this on his talk page. The article he created is already part of the Miss Globe International topic. 🌼𝓡𝓬 𝓡𝓪𝓶𝔃🍁 (talk) 03:29, 4 November 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Question from Sosoconnect (06:00, 4 November 2024)

[edit]

Hello Cullen 328, I am glad to have you as my Wikipedia mentor. I want to learn practical ways on how to cite links, books as references in an article.

Thank you. --Sosoconnect (talk) 06:00, 4 November 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Hello, Sosoconnect. I see that you are a new editor and so I want to say Welcome to Wikipedia . The basic principle is that you should only cite sources that are considered reliable. New editors often have a hard time making this distinction, but is is based on professional editorial control, a general reputation for accuracy and a willingness to correct errors. As for the technical methods to cite various types of reliable sources, please take a look at Wikipedia:Citation templates. Cullen328 (talk) 07:47, 4 November 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Let me add, Sosoconnect, that if you have any other questions about editing, please do not hesitate to ask me. I hope that editing Wikipedia gives you the sort of genuine idealistic self-satisfaction that I have enjoyed for over 15 years. But there are policies and guidelines. Those who understand them and have a internalized them can be successful on Wikipedia. Those who haven't, often encounter problems. I hope that you are in the first group. Cullen328 (talk) 08:06, 4 November 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Many thanks, I really appreciate. Sosoconnect (talk) 20:43, 4 November 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Question from PatrioticMuslimBangladeshi (08:27, 5 November 2024)

[edit]

How do I change the title of an article? (E.g., https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Viktor_Yanukovych_(politician,_born_1981) ) --PMB (talku|) 08:27, 5 November 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Hello, PatrioticMuslimBangladeshi. The procedure to change the title of an article is called moving. Your account to too new to do this. You can ask at Wikipedia:Requested moves instead. Cullen328 (talk) 16:28, 5 November 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Thank you very much. PMB (talk) 08:19, 6 November 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Question about new topic in AE

[edit]

To follow rules properly, I want to ask if I can create new topic at AE regarding my appeal if I want some of my comments to be noticed? Shahray (talk) 09:23, 5 November 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Shahray, you have an open appeal at AE. In my opinion, it would be a bad idea for you to start another conversation there. Cullen328 (talk) 16:22, 5 November 2024 (UTC)[reply]
@Cullen328, admins didn't address apologies Ive given and my proposal to do zero reverts, I want them to be noticed to clarify that this ban is not necessary for me. Commenting at first appeal is useless, as my comments aren't seen by others, so what should I do in that case, close my first appeal and create additional one? Shahray (talk) 20:28, 5 November 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Shahray, your assumption my comments aren't seen by others is incorrect. AE is high visibility and what you say there is read by many administrators, whether or not they choose to comment. Do not close the appeal yourself. Leave that to someone else. Cullen328 (talk) 20:32, 5 November 2024 (UTC)[reply]
@Cullen328 none of the admins responded, you haven't responded either. So this is the conclusion I make. So if it is closed, can I make another one? Shahray (talk) 22:11, 5 November 2024 (UTC) would[reply]
Shahray, administrators are not obligated to respond to points they find unconvincing. Your appeal is still open. Starting another appeal at this time would be unwise, in my opinion. Cullen328 (talk) 22:40, 5 November 2024 (UTC)[reply]
@Cullen328, my willingness to not revert and seek consensus among community are not convincing? Can I change the initial statement in my appeal to another one that will address this? Shahray (talk) 09:42, 6 November 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Shahray, you can add to your initial statement but changing it would be considered deceptive and disruptive. Once you have said something and other editors have responded to what you said, you should not change anything, except for correcting inconsequential typographical errors like changing "teh" to "the". Cullen328 (talk) 10:00, 6 November 2024 (UTC)[reply]
@Cullen328, am I fully allowed to create another appeal after first one is closed? Shahray (talk) 11:34, 6 November 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Notice of a discussion I think you'd be interested in knowing about

[edit]

Hey Cullen, I thought you might want to be aware of this discussion|this discussion (which includes not just the linked to thread, but a much larger one further above on VP/WMF). In summary, it appears that the WMF is prepared to imminently disclose personally identifying information about volunteers in a controversial Indian court case, where a news agency is attempting to suppress Wikipedia's tertiary coverage of the content of secondary sources (which it considers unflattering) by going after Wikipedia and a number of its individual editors as defendants. In order to comply with court orders in the case, it seems the WMF is prepared to share this information in what a number of us consider a pretty seismically bad idea and a betrayal of community priorities and values (the WMF has also already used an office action to remove an article reporting on the case, at the direction of the court for what said court regards as legitimate sub judice reasons).

While the deletion of the article has been framed by the WMF as temporary step to preserve appeal on the overall case, and there are mixed feelings in the community response as to that so far, there is a much more uniform opposition to throwing the individual editors (at least one of whom is located in India and has profound apprehension about what this could mean for his life with regard to litigation and beyond). And yet the WMF appears to be prepared to share the information in question, as soon as Nov. 8. Can I impose upon you to take a look at the matter and share your perspective? SnowRise let's rap 00:29, 6 November 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks for letting me know, Snow Rise. I read what you wrote, but to be honest, my mental energy is focused on another important matter right now. I am opposed to releasing PII to that court, but I want to have a clear head so that what I write is more than a platitude. Cullen328 (talk) 00:51, 6 November 2024 (UTC)[reply]
That is, of course, completely understandable. I hope your other matter resolves favourably in time for you to contribute something; your voice carries a lot of weight for many of us in this community, for good reason. But, as always, best wishes regardless! SnowRise let's rap 00:58, 6 November 2024 (UTC)[reply]
