Possibly what someone saw was dual-dated 1678/79 (old Julian/new Gregorian calendars), it being in January. The Julian new year didn't begin until March 25th, so dates Jan - Mar 25th were dual-dated. ~~~~

  • 01:1701:17, 16 April 2020 diff hist 0 m Theophilus W. Smith A headstone photo shows that he died on 6 May 1845, at the age of 60 (he would have turned 61 on his birthday later in the year). A publication incorrectly stated his date of death as 6 May 1846, and this was endlessly quoted by other sources. He was my 4th ggf, and family information also shows the 6 May 1845 date of death.
