AI Picture

edit

Hey folks I don't normally do things like this on Wikipedia & so forgive me if I don't know protocol, but wanted to say there's a photo(?) in this article that I'm fairly sure is AI generated. If it's not, there seems to be a very strange filter on it. You'll find it under Tennis Career -> 2024 season. It's captioned "Djokovic at the 2024 French Open." If you zoom in you'll see it doesn't look quite right. I reverse image searched it and it seems like it only exists on various pages sourced to this Wikipedia article. 67.86.206.135 (talk) 03:24, 8 July 2024 (UTC)Reply

It does look a bit off to me but the place to bring that up is at Wikimedia Commons where it was uploaded and resides. Fyunck(click) (talk) 04:13, 8 July 2024 (UTC)Reply

Too long

edit

The article at 21,000 words readable prose size, is 6,000 words too long, per WP:AS. I'd split out into Career of Novak Djokovic as a solution, similar to Messi, Ronaldo, Federer, Rafael Nadal. What else do people think we should do? Tom B (talk) 09:57, 13 July 2024 (UTC)Reply

Nothing needs to be split out at all. It's simply way too wordy and detailed, just like Serena Williams article. Even the lead is ridiculous. Less detail and more high points probably chops it down by 1/3. Fyunck(click) (talk) 16:43, 13 July 2024 (UTC)Reply

Greatest men's tennis player of all time.

edit

Add that he's the greatest men's tennis player of all time after his Olympic gold. He's already beaten all the important records in men's tennis and cemented his undisputed claim to the title. 139.47.22.101 (talk) 15:06, 4 August 2024 (UTC)Reply

Not done: It's not Wikipedia's job to determine that. We can quote other people calling him the greatest player of all time, but we can't decide that he is. AntiDionysius (talk) 15:42, 4 August 2024 (UTC)Reply

Djokovic is the world's greatest tennis player of all time!

edit

Legendary athletes like Lionel Messi and Lebron James are “widely regarded” as some of the best players of all time in their respective sports on Wikipedia. Both of those articles are rated as good Wikipedia articles. Meanwhile, Djokovic after winning the Olympic Singles Gold Medal is now “widely regarded” by many as the greatest tennis player of all time, including by reputable sites like Tennis.com, Sports Illustrated, Forbes, The New York Times/ The Athletic, as well as by fellow tennis legends such as Rafael Nadal and Pete Sampras. This is an excellent reason to add that he is "widely regarded" as the greatest tennis player of all time on his Wikipedia page.

Djokovic is also widely regarded as one of the best players of all-time in his respective sport. So no issue. As for the water cooler greatest, that has always been for fun and not really encyclopedic. Numbers alone don't tell the story or the womens goat would have been settled decades and decades ago. But Djokovic is certainly regarded as one of the best. He hasn't been able to win a Grand Slam like Laver did (twice) but he's accomplished everything else. Well for the time being I will add he is "widely regarded" as one of the greatest tennis players of all time, since everybody acknowledges that statement in the tennis community, including the media, players, coaches and Fyunck as well. Once he passes Margaret Court and stands alone for the most grand slam tournaments won, then I will add that he is "widely regarded" as the greatest tennis player of all time, since everybody will agree once that feat is accomplished. KnowledgeNinjas (talk) 02:08, 7 August 2024 (UTC)Reply
But not in the lead. It's already in the legacy section. And just because he wins another major still doesn't do it. There is a lot more than just numbers or Emerson would have been the greatest for a long time. Has he won a Grand Slam... no. has he won two Grand Slams... no. GOAT is a water cooler thing not an encyclopedic thing. We have a legacy section for that puffery. Otherwise we have to start adding the same thing to Tilden, Laver, Federer, Nadal, etc...Fyunck(click) (talk) 06:23, 7 August 2024 (UTC)Reply

Add ATP Cup (2020) Win to Team Competitions results summary

2020 ATP Cup won by Serbia 2A02:14F:172:9D7D:61D7:FD07:3EF0:8072 (talk) 18:39, 6 August 2024 (UTC)Reply

Not an important enough event for the infobox. Fyunck(click) (talk) 18:51, 6 August 2024 (UTC)Reply
It's equivalent to the Hopman Cup which do appears in the infobox, and was replaced by the ATP Cup between 2020-2022.
In addition, in the introduction itself the article states that: "Representing Serbia, Djokovic led the national tennis team to its first Davis Cup title in 2010, and to the inaugural ATP Cup title in 2020."
No mention of the Hopman Cup, but do mentioning both victories within the same sentence. Thereby, it makes sense to add this title to the infobox 2A0D:6FC0:868:D500:15B1:B7E4:E9C6:8C4D (talk) 19:44, 6 August 2024 (UTC)Reply
That was not the consensus when it was created here. The ATP Cup was a lesser event with way less history that was defunct in three seasons. And just because someone plopped it in the lead, hoping the event would catch on, doesn't mean it should be in the lead. It should not. Fyunck(click) (talk) 21:48, 7 August 2024 (UTC)Reply

Add Djokovic is the All-time leader in earnings

edit

This is one of the greatest achievement of Djokovic which contributes to his legacy. I think we should add it as a short sentence to the first paragraph 2A02:14F:172:9D7D:61D7:FD07:3EF0:8072 (talk) 18:44, 6 August 2024 (UTC)Reply

That is not all that big a deal. The way prize money keeps going up, five years from now a player will pass it from winning 10 events in their lifetime. The earnings record falls very often. Fyunck(click) (talk) 18:50, 6 August 2024 (UTC)Reply
It's a record that would probably stay for at least a decade 2A02:14F:1EB:CBA3:6DB2:28B3:379F:8F6E (talk) 21:23, 7 August 2024 (UTC)Reply
