Liza Tarbuck education

edit

Hi there - I understand the need for references for Wikipedia pages for people very much in the public domain. However, I was at school with Liza, so that's all I have as a reference. I wasn't aware that this is the sort of information that requires a reference, and I am not sure one could be provided, but do let me know what I might be able to do to find one. Thanks. Stwheel1 (talk) 11:16, 2 July 2024 (UTC)Reply

@Stwheel1 Thanks for clarifying where you're coming from on this! I'm afraid Wikipedia can't use that kind of personal knowledge in its articles, even when it's true - everything written here is expected to rest on a bedrock of Wikipedia:Verifiability. If Tarbuck has never mentioned the school in any books or interviews, Wikipedia can't mention it either. Belbury (talk) 11:30, 2 July 2024 (UTC)Reply
Completely understand. OK - I'll search for such a reference, and leave things as they are unless I find one. Stwheel1 (talk) 12:11, 2 July 2024 (UTC)Reply

Listenbourg

edit

Hi ! I am French and I have participated in the lore of pasy since its creation, in 2 years the information has been reviewed and according to all the existing discord servers, the population is 78 million people, can I modify this? (As well as the president of the country who is no longer a Gaspardo who resigned more than a year ago.) Lemurien321 (talk) 10:38, 5 July 2024 (UTC)Reply

@Lemurien321: Probably not per WP:SELFSOURCE. The Wikipedia article is really a record of the Listenbourg meme at its height rather than a mirror of whatever's happening on the fan sites - if five years from now the Discord has been dwindled to a handful of users, is Wikipedia going to keep recording their latest statements about the country?
The article already written in the past tense as The population was said to be 59 million and that Gaspardo was proclaimed president of Listenbourg, so I think it works. Belbury (talk) 10:51, 5 July 2024 (UTC)Reply
Lemurien321 (talk) 10:57, 5 July 2024 (UTC)Reply
I'd suggest raising this on Talk:Listenbourg and in English, but I think it's going to be hard to argue that post-meme-peak activity on fan forums belongs in the article when no WP:SECONDARY source is interested in documenting it. Belbury (talk) 11:01, 5 July 2024 (UTC)Reply
Can we really say that this is post-meme activity? The initiators of this project are still with us. The French press article invented this number of inhabitants which is contrary to the wishes of the creator and the fans. Lemurien321 (talk) 11:04, 5 July 2024 (UTC)Reply
If there hasn't been any press coverage of it since 2022 there's not a lot new that we can say about it now. I assume the French press took the figure from somewhere on social media at the time. Belbury (talk) 11:12, 5 July 2024 (UTC)Reply
Is this a reason not to modify the article? we don't talk about thousands of Wikipedia pages every day, yet when they are incorrect we correct them Lemurien321 (talk) 11:51, 5 July 2024 (UTC)Reply
I'd suggest posting to Talk:Listenbourg saying specifically what you think should be included or changed, to get some broader feedback on this. Belbury (talk) 15:03, 5 July 2024 (UTC)Reply
And also, Gaspardo himself resigned and I say to myself that it would be fun to update the Wikipedia page given that it is in itself a page about a subjective and non-existent thing :) thank you very much for reading! Lemurien321 (talk) 11:02, 5 July 2024 (UTC)Reply

Your template message

edit

U made a message on my homepage, and I think you made a mistake. I have edited Wikipedia since yesterday and have never edited here before. I actually started edited what I did from the UK election page coz I thought it was out of date. Sorry if I caused problems.

Warm wishes 2A0A:EF40:E4A:E101:6DC6:9BD0:863B:BB00 (talk) 11:29, 8 July 2024 (UTC)Reply

One second, let me open an SPI for you. Belbury (talk) 12:31, 8 July 2024 (UTC)Reply
Thanks, I'm not sure what that means though 2A0A:EF40:E4A:E101:6DC6:9BD0:863B:BB00 (talk) 12:32, 8 July 2024 (UTC)Reply

Care drain - Technical template

edit

Hello! I have recently finished polishing the Care drain article and I am wondering if it has resolved the issue(s) with technical language you found? Thank you! Kindly, Pinecone23 (talk) 17:28, 8 July 2024 (UTC)Reply

@Pinecone23 Great job, that's much clearer! I'll remove the template myself. Belbury (talk) 17:31, 8 July 2024 (UTC)Reply
Thank you very much! :-) Pinecone23 (talk) 17:40, 8 July 2024 (UTC)Reply

Who is the original blocked account you reverted at Transport in the United Kingdom? I hate sockpuppetry! 10mmsocket (talk) 16:13, 19 July 2024 (UTC)Reply

@10mmsocket It's Wikipedia:Sockpuppet investigations/Lam312321321. Belbury (talk) 16:20, 19 July 2024 (UTC)Reply
Thanks. I thought it was familiar. Keep up the good work! 10mmsocket (talk) 16:25, 19 July 2024 (UTC)Reply

2.64

edit

My problem with the 2.64 subjects is it doesn't really make much sense. The standard for A-Level is 3 subjects. 2A0A:EF40:EFE:5801:A582:24C0:B867:14DD (talk) 13:05, 28 July 2024 (UTC)Reply

Private message

edit

Regarding your readding of the Facebook lawsuit content, I actually had moved it over to Instant messaging#Security and archiving thinking it is better suited there. Just letting you know but I won't object it in Private Message if you think that's right. Sucrehypsy (talk) 19:16, 6 August 2024 (UTC)Reply

@Sucrehypsy Oh, I see. Maybe it belongs in both places? That the lawsuit makes specific reference to the fact that the service was misleadingly representing to users that the content of Facebook messages is 'private' seems like a significant angle on the whole concept of any web service that has a feature with that adjective. Maccus

edit

A little help: https://www.google.com/search?client=firefox-b-d&q=maccus It's no problem if you haven't seen the movie. But the fact that you cannot use Google is. XXLVenom999 (talk) 14:36, 7 August 2024 (UTC)Reply

@XXLVenom999 No need to, it's a WP:DABRELATED issue: Include articles only if the term being disambiguated is actually described in the target article.
I checked List of Pirates of the Caribbean characters and he's not mentioned there either. Belbury (talk) 14:41, 7 August 2024 (UTC)Reply
If he is not mentioned, it's not his fault, but the fault of those who haven't added him yet. Considering he is the second in command/first mate of Davy Jones, the main antagonist of the 2nd and 3rd movie, it would be hard to say he is not notable, or a minor character. But whatever. XXLVenom999 (talk) 14:48, 7 August 2024 (UTC)Reply
@XXLVenom999 Sure, okay. I'm not saying anything about whether I think he's notable or minor, just how WP:DABRELATED works. I am not ... blaming the fictional character himself for this? Belbury (talk) 14:52, 7 August 2024 (UTC)Reply
I don't know how that guideline works, I'm not too familiar here, I mainly edit on my native Wiki. I just thought a character who appeared in a popular franchise and who comes to mind of people when hearing that name 9 out of 10 times is worth mentioning. But if not, that's okay. Consensus

edit

I am sure you are editing in good faith, but when two editors disagree, an article or template must stay at the status quo. The burden to show a consensus for change falls to the editor who wants to make that change. You have not shown a consensus, so the template stays as it was. See WP:BRD. As long at it is only you who is advocating for a change, the dissent of a single editor is enough to block that change. Skyerise (talk) 19:32, 16 August 2024 (UTC)Reply

@Skyerise: I'd assumed that the discussion at Template talk:New Age beliefs sidebar had failed, with no response in a month. I hadn't restored my preferred image, which you'd objected to, I'd only removed the one which I'd questioned the usage of and which you hadn't given any comment on. Belbury (talk) 10:49, 17 August 2024 (UTC)Reply
How does that matter? You haven't shown a consensus for change, so the template doesn't get changed. That's not really hard to understand. Skyerise (talk) 11:09, 17 August 2024 (UTC)Reply
@Skyerise: Removing the Rainbow Family photo and leaving the navbox with no image is a separate question, which I raised a month ago and you hadn't given a view on. If my removing the photo has started a new round of WP:BRD, that's all good, but please do say what you think about it. Belbury (talk) 11:21, 17 August 2024 (UTC)Reply
I don't think there is a problem with the image; as I said before, I am open to the idea that there is a better image, but it's up to you to propose one that I agree with. You can also go to WP:3O or start an RfC if you like. Skyerise (talk) 11:30, 17 August 2024 (UTC)Reply

Obvious sockpuppets of Xiaomichel

edit

Hi, sorry to bother you, but I would like to point out that this user you know very well: Xiaomichel (here is also his investigation page about him: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wikipedia:Sockpuppet_investigations/Xiaomichel/Archive) and who, currently, in addition to cleaning his talk page from clear evidence that he was a single-purpose account engaged in tendentious editing that led to his being blocked (and then recently unblocked, probably by mistake), is now clearly back with multiple sockpuppets clearly intent on pushing forward the same agenda, such as: Sapsby, Oxbowa, Greyczech, Eduadoros, in addition to many IPs.

Could you please check and confirm that these all belong to the same person? Because he is creating a lot of havoc here on Wikipedia, trying to vandalize various articles related to Italian cuisine to further his agenda (as he always has).

Sorry again for the inconvenience and thanks in advance for any attention. Have a nice day. 95.239.78.209 (talk) 13:15, 20 August 2024 (UTC)Reply

Sorry, I don't have the power to check these things. I'd suggest raising a new SPI investigation yourself, including diffs to show why you believe what you believe about these accounts, if you have concerns. Belbury (talk) 13:21, 20 August 2024 (UTC)Reply

Minor Correction

edit

Hi, Belbury, I just fixed a minor issue on the talk page of God. Also made it more descriptive of what I wanted to mean by adding some little but important info in the brackets. So, that anyone can understand what I wanted to mean although this issue has been solved. The topic itself is now no longer necessary. And the edit was made by Herplas, not by myself. And there was editing war going through and that's why I thought to discuss the topic on the talk page. AimanAbir18plus (talk) 19:02, 21 August 2024 (UTC)Reply

@AimanAbir18plus: I appreciate your intention, but the three people who've already replied to your comment had read and were referring to the original version, rather than your new version where you've changed things around and added new information. (As an example, your change means that it looks like Bis-Serjetà is bringing up the concept of a three-faced Jesus, when it was part of your original comment before you changed it.)
If you have something to add to make your point clearer, you should just post a new comment instead. Belbury (talk) 19:11, 21 August 2024 (UTC)Reply

Cheat (game)

edit

I edited it to add that the game is also called BS (abbreviation of bullshit), and it’s also already stated elsewhere in the article that that is one of the things exclaimed when a player believed another to have lied. I’m sure this can be backed by sources already there. Helloisgone (talk) 16:34, 22 August 2024 (UTC)Reply

@Helloisgone: Thanks, but all I see is The game is commonly known as "Cheat" in Britain and "Bullshit" or "BS" in the United States., which wasn't sourced either, so I should probably take that out.
If you can find a source that uses that name you're welcome to add it back with that source as a footnote. This is one of the card game articles that gets a lot of local names added, so we try to restrict it to those that appear in sources, rather than listing all possible names. Belbury (talk) 16:37, 22 August 2024 (UTC)Reply
deletionism 😔
It says in the article that when you think someone’s cheating you say BS, cheat, etc. I amn’t anything more than a small edito, and I’vn’t any affinity to edit this issue further. I recommend you delve into some sources for this! Thanks Helloisgone (talk) 05:00, 23 August 2024 (UTC)Reply

Added you to my frens

edit

Well added you to my frens and would appreciate your sayings on my user page please check frens and add comment there ❤️ David Blockchain (talk) 17:21, 25 August 2024 (UTC)Reply

@David Blockchain: Wikipedia isn't a social network, people generally don't use their user pages like that and just work and talk together without tracking those connections anywhere.
Note that the word "fren" is a far-right dogwhistle term, if you weren't already aware of that. Belbury (talk) 08:54, 27 August 2024 (UTC)Reply
Wasn’t knowing that but connections are important anywhere everywhere suggestions improvements and all are the things we need in life David Blockchain (talk) 08:56, 27 August 2024 (UTC)Reply
