2024 Dagestan attack

On 23 June 2024, gunmen opened fire in Derbent and Makhachkala in the Dagestan republic of Russia. In Derbent, they set fire to the Derbent Synagogue, the only one in the city.[2][3] At least one police officer was killed.[4] A shooting also occurred in Makhachkala where an officer was killed and six were injured.[5][6] At least two Orthodox churches, a synagogue, and a police post were targeted.[7] A priest was killed in the Derbent Synagogue.[8]
