(from Jason A. Leman, AF-11436969,- USAF Robins AFB, GA / 1965-1968) > Arrived at this base, and was assigned to the 7th Logistic Support Squadron (7th LOG) Lt Col Dixon J.Arnold was Squadron Cmdr, Maint. Officer was Major Matos. The orange circle with the packrat carrying a "log" on his shoulder made it look like the number 7. Then, when Viet Nam started becoming more intense, and after the Haiti Airlift, we were adopted into the 465th MAC,HQ Dover AFB, Delaware, under the name 58th Mil. Airlift Squadron (Special), and the packrat with the log in an orange circle stayed the same. We were "special" because we carried fighter jet parts and k-9 teams into the Southeast Asia network, and the planes were reconfigured to carry litter patients on the return trip. In 66-67, we changed to the C-141 Starlifter (the T-tail actually adjusted for quicker, steeper lift-offs on short runways)The safety strap, when working on the tail top, was originally designed 11 feet longer than the actual total height from top to ground (oops!).
