History

Bass Hill Plaza opened on November 27, 1984 and included a Franklins Supermarket, Target and Woolworths as main anchor tenants and over 50 speciality stores. In 2013 Franklins closed its store and was replaced by Aldi which opened on August 28, 2013.[2] Target closed its Bass Hill store on June 28, 2014 due to poor sales.[3] Charter Hall acquired Bass Hill Plaza on November 11 for $90million from Singapore-based Memo Corporation which also owns Strathfield Plaza.[4] On 26 November 2014, Bass Hill Plaza celebrated its 30th Birthday and the grand opening of its Kmart store that replaced the previous Target store.[5]

Incidents

On 7 March 2016, six teenagers were involved in a brawl in a car park. Police were called to Bass Hill Plaza about 3.20pm yesterday after reports of a large group of students fighting in the car park. When police arrived, they found a crowd of about 100 people there and when officers tried to disperse the people, a number of students refused to follow police direction to leave the area. Police arrested six teenagers — four boys aged 17, 15 and two aged 14; and two girls, aged 14 and 15 — and took them to Bankstown Police Station.[6]

All six were dealt with under the Young Offenders Act.
