2014 U.S. Senate race
Orman is an Independent candidate in Kansas's 2014 United States Senate election. He is currently facing incumbent Republican Senator Pat Roberts. Orman had attempted to position himself as the main rival to Roberts, noting how much his campaign had raised compared to that of his opponent Democrat Chad Taylor, who dropped out of the race on September 3.[2]
In July 2014, Orman's campaign announced that he had gathered enough signatures to file as a candidate for the general election.[1]
On September 3, 2014, Orman received the endorsement of 70 Republican elected officials led by former State Senator Tim Owens.[3]
Personal life
Orman was raised in Stanley, Kansas, where his father operated a furniture store. His mother, Darlene Gates, was a registered nurse. He has four siblings. Orman graduated from Princeton University in 1991 with a degree in economics.
Orman lives in Olathe with his wife, Sybil.[1]
Orman is reportedly the basis for the character "Snipe" in Jacob Appel's novel, The Biology of Luck.[4]
