Firefly (TV series)

The science fiction television show Firefly, created by Joss Whedon the creator of Buffy the Vampire Slayer and Angel, first aired in the Fall of 2002, and follows the voyages, adventures, and fist-fights of Captain Malcolm Reynolds (Nathan Fillion) and the crew of the starship Serenity.

Featuring a blend of elements from the space opera and western genres, the show depicts mankind's future in a way that is uncharacteristic of many contemporary science fiction programs. The dialogue and interplay between characters drives the plot, resulting in a story that is alternately serious and humorous.

Though the show has a loyal following, its future is somewhat uncertain (as of December 2002) due to low ratings, and additional responsibility for Whedon after the departure of Angel co-creator David Greenwalt. Fox Network has decided not to carry the show through the remainder of the season.
