After graduating from [[Shanghai Medical College]] (now part of [[Fudan University]]) in 1952, he worked in [[Internal medicine|internal medicine]] at [[Huashan Hospital]], which is affiliated with Shanghai Medical College. Shen spent his entire career at Huashan Hospital.
