Carvalho joined York City from Ituano in August 2002, after impressing during pre-season.[1] He spent a month on loan at Harrogate Town and was released by York in January 2003.[2] It was later alleged that he was only signed because then chairman John Batchelor decided that 'he would sign a Brazilian'.
