• On Saturday, April 21, 2018, East Georgia State College joined the Emanuel County Farmers and Artisans Market in Swainsboro to celebrate Earth Day. Since its beginnings in 1970, April 22 has marked the celebration of Earth Day as a way to increase environmental awareness and environmental protection in the community. During this event, EGSC faculty and staff showcased their initiatives to become a more sustainable and environmentally-minded campus. EGSC’s Tree Campus designation was also on display. This certification is awarded by the Arbor Day Foundation to universities and colleges for promoting healthy trees and engaging students and staff in the spirit of conservation. • The East Georgia State College Foundation was recently awarded a $5,000 grant from the Mill Creek Foundation to establish a plant growing facility which will include raised beds and a hoop house on the EGSC-Swainsboro campus. http://emanuelcountylive.com/2018/05/egsc-receives-grant-to-establish-plant-growing-facilities/

• East Georgia State College recently began a new initiative for the 2017-2018 academic year to honor select high school juniors throughout their service area. The L.E.A.D. the Way Program is designed to recognize juniors through the following criteria: Leadership (leadership qualities within and/or outside of school), Engagement (engagement within the school body and/or community), Achievement (scholastic achievements so far) and Dedication (dedication to their education and future). http://emanuelcountylive.com/2018/05/138899/

• East Georgia State College held their Inaugural White Coat Ceremony on Thursday, January 18, 2018 in the Luck F. Gambrell Building Auditorium on the Swainsboro Campus. The White Coat Ceremony recognized the first two classes of EGSC’s RN to BSN Bridge Program, which allows working nurses to earn their Bachelor of Science in Nursing degree entirely online at an affordable, local institution. http://emanuelcountylive.com/2018/01/egsc-nursing-program-holds-inaugural-white-coat-ceremony/

• East Georgia State College was recently recognized as a Tree Campus USA by the Arbor Day Foundation. • A generous gift to EGSC from the Motorola Corporation has created a new scholarship program for the Fire and Emergency Services Administration degree.  A scholarship of $1000 maximum per person will be given each semester to one or more students in the FESA program at EGSC.
