→"mass revelation": More potential mass revelations |
|||
Line 222:
Yes, this subsection should certainly be removed or rewritten. Its basic claim is "Judaism is the only religion in history that is based on a mass-revelation of God." Judaism is not the only religion that claims a divine revelation to a large group of people. For one thing Samaritans would by default need to be added to this list. As well as Christianity for that matter, because they also believe in the 5 Books of Moses, because even though they added on to Judaism, Judaism itself is more than the claim that God was revealed at Mt. Sinai. If I'm not mistaken the religions of the Sioux as well as the Lakota are also based on mass revelation claims. Further, I don't know why for the purposes of this article it matters whether the religion is based on a mass revelation. It could just say that the Torah claims a mass revelation without commenting on whether it's the basis for Judaism or asserting that no other religion is based on a mass revelation. Also there may be a number of other religions or mythologies that claim a revelation to large groups of people. Since there is already a section in this article about Judaism, I recommend moving references to Judaism itself there, and if we keep the Mass Revelation section it should discuss the Torah and these other mass revelation claims all together. :I would also add that technically there would have been mass revelations from everyone in the List of people who have been considered deities as long as they spoke to a crowd of their followers. Another potential issue with the section is the nature of the mass revelation account in the Torah, because the Torah says that the people were afraid to hear God speak and had Moses be the intermediary, in which case would that be considered mass revelation?
